Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley welcomed the announcement.

“I welcome this funding which will enhance these excellent facilities providing vital services to communities across the county,” said Minister Foley. “These bright, colourful and peaceful sensory gardens will improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in Kerry.”

A call for applications for funding went live in October and a second round of applications is expected to open in 2022.

Sensory gardens are designed to stimulate the senses. The plants and the materials are specifically chosen to stimulate the senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.

While sensory gardens are popular with the entire community, they are particularly beneficial to children and adults with disabilities.
