THE new Rose of Tralee was looking very fresh for someone who had very little sleep last night as she posed for the traditional photoshoot in the Town Park on Wednesday morning.

New York’s Róisín Wiley was still reeling after she was announced as the winner last night and described to the media in the Town Park how she felt after her name was called out.

“I was so excited and I’m still trying to soak it all in. I was speechless and just so in shock. From there it was a whirlwind…you see your parents when walking down the aisle afterwards, then to pull up on Denny Street and see all the girls behind clapping for me…it’s a blur,” said the 27 year old, who lives in Manhattan.

Róisín described her experience as life-changing and had a special word of thanks to the people of Tralee.

“I have to say a massive thank you to the town of Tralee. The most unbelievable part of this whole experience for me has been the two parades that we participated in.

We’ve had the support from our family and friends, but to see the town of Tralee and the people of Ireland support us, to be driving through the town and making eye contact with everyone, people shouting for us…it’s something I’ll never experience again. It was life-changing the last few days. Thank you to the town and people of Tralee for supporting us,” said Róisín.

When asked about the immediate future, the VP of National Sales at a consumer marketing company, managing a territory of OTC and Pharmaceutical accounts, said she is off work until this coming Monday and “we’ll take it from there after that.” Scroll down for photos…
