KILKENNY hurler Richie Power was a special guest at the annual celebration of Kerry camogie last night.
McHales Stretford End Bar in Causeway was the venue for their social, which also welcomed MEP Sean Kelly and Radio Kerry’s Weeshie Fogarty, as the camogie faithful looked back on the successes of the past year.
Secretary of the Kerry Camogie County board and captain of the Kerry camogie team, Michelle Costello, told us what the night was about and went through the good times during the year.
“It’s to honour the girls who had a very successful 2015. Our Kerry panel won the National League Division 4 and also won the Munster Junior Championship.
Our Clanmaurice club won the LIT Summer League Division 1 and they also won the Munster Junior Club Championship. They reached the All-Ireland semi-final for the second time this year, however they were defeated.
The minor club, St Anne’s – an amalgamation of Causeway and Cillard – won the Limerick Minor Championship.
“So 2015 was a great year for Kerry camogie, but we need to drive on from here. We’re starting training again this weekend. We’ve four underage clubs and hopefully that’ll lead to four senior clubs in the future,” said Michelle.
A number of medals were presented on the night and the whole feeling was the future is very bright for Kerry camogie.
