JOHN Mitchels GAA Club was basketball central on Friday, as the venue for the CBS Primary Hoops Tournament.
Fifteen teams competed, with 30 games played throughout the day. Teams from CBS, Holy Family, Dromclough, Moyderwell, O’Brennan, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, Murhur and Listellick all competed.
The day was a huge success, with high levels of sportsmanship and participation by all.
After all group games were played, O’Brennan and Holy Family B team competed in the third place playoff, which saw defending champions O’Brennan come out on top.
The final was an epic game, with Holy Family competing against Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn. After taking an early lead, Holy Family led 6-0 at half time.
Gaelscoil made a great comeback to see the sides level at full time. The game then went to double overtime, before Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn emerged victorious.
MVP of tournament award went to Darragh O’Connor of Holy Family, and Graham Sheehy of Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn.
Tournament Organisers, Maria O’Regan and Michelle Culloty expressed their gratitude to John Mitchels GAA for the use of their facilities, Fyffes, who sponsored fruit for all competitors, and CBS The Green Transition Years who provided referees for the day.
