THERE were many happy faces in schools around Tralee on Wednesday morning as the Leaving Certificate results were released.

They were some of the 58,500 students who sat the exams nationally, almost 1,900 of whom were Kerry students.

“The results were very good,” said Austin Ó Seachnasaigh, Principal of Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, where 43 students sat the exams. “At a glance, around 70% received over 400 points which is well above the national average,” he said.

It was a similar story in Presentation Secondary School where there were 106 Leaving Cert students.

“I haven’t seen any disappointed faces this morning,” said Principal of Presentation Tralee, Mary O’Keeffe. “They seem to be very happy, we’ll be hoping for the best for all the girls when the CAO offers come next week. Hopefully they’ll have a good day and a good night and go home safely.”

“I think they’ll all get what their looking for. It’s great that it’s over for them now and they can relax. We had a few students who got over 600 points and we’re thrilled for them,” said Principal Anne O’Callaghan.

There were 167 students receiving results in the town’s largest school, Mercy Mounthawk.

“We’re very pleased with the results looking at it across the board, they were very solid,” said Principal John O’Roarke. “The students I met this morning seemed to be happy with themselves, which is marvellous. It’ll be interesting to see how the new grading system affects the CAO offers on Monday,” he added.
