THERE was an incredible turnout at Fels Point on Sunday for the Hawley O’Sullivan Memorial Truck Run.
Over 100 trucks took part in the event which has already raised over €10,400 for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.
Hawley O’Sullivan, from O’Rahillys Villas was just 28 when he died on June 15, 1996. The run was organised by Hawley’s niece, Karen Maher Hayles, who was delighted with the event. “We’ve over 105 trucks here and it’s a fantastic turnout. They’ve come from as away as Cork and Limerick for the event,” she said.

A special guest on Sunday was Hawley’s son Tony, who was born just eight days after his father passed away.
“It’s a lovely tribute to him, we couldn’t have asked for more. It wouldn’t have happened without Karen, she’s been amazing,” said Tony.
There was a great atmosphere at the large space at Fels Point as the trucks lined up for the drive to Castleisland, over to Farranfore, on to Killarney and back to Fels Point.
Hawley was well known in the trucking community having worked for O’Neill’s Transport and later Garyowen Transport, so it was no surprise the turnout was so impressive.
When the trucks returned there was music from DJ Manus Leen and a food truck provided much needed sustenance. There was also prizes for Oldest Truck, Best 80s Truck, Best Fleet Turnout, Best Rigid and Best Tractor Unit.
