THE Moyderwell school gym was the location on Thursday for the second schools basketball blitz for girls, run by the Community Gardaí.

There were nine teams from six schools taking part were Moyderwell, St Brendan’s NS Fenit, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, Presentation Primary, St Brendan’s NS Blennerville.

“We decided to organise the tournament last year because there was a need for a girls tournament for primary schools,” said Community Garda, Mary Gardiner.

“It’s going from strength to strength and we hope to have a bigger representation next year,” said Mary who thanked Cliffords Cash & Carry and Garvey’s Supervalu for sponsoring the goodies afterwards.

Dusan Bogdanovic of Tralee Warriors also called in to say hello during the tournament. There was a cup and a shield competition run off during the morning and afternoon with Garda Aidan O’Mahony acting as a referee for many of them.

The winners of the cup competition were Scoil Eoin who beat Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn. St Brendan’s Blennerville won the Shield against a Presentation side. Scroll down for photos…
