HUNDREDS of teenagers had a day off today after they collected their Junior Certificate results at five Tralee secondary schools.
There were smiles aplenty as they gathered this morning and principals were delighted with how they got on in the exams.
In Presentation Secondary there were 107 students who sat the exam and we encountered some very happy girls when we went to the school on Wednesday morning.
“They were super, we’re absolutely delighted with the results,” said Acting Principal, Chrissie Kelly. “It’s testimony to the hard work they put in and by their teachers also,” she added.

It was a similar story in Coláiste Gleann Lí where 26 students celebrated. “The results were very strong again this year with an increased number taking and achieving high marks in higher level subjects across all disciplines,” said Principal Richard Lawlor.
Gaelchloláiste Chiarraí had 59 students sitting the exams in June and they looked very pleased with the results when we called.
“All the students achieved great grades,” said Principal Ruairí Ó Cinnéide. “It’s a reward for all the work they have put in over the last three years, and for their parents and teachers. We’re very proud of them,” he added.
CBS The Green students were just beginning to open their results when we called by. There were 115 boys who sat the exams and exclamations of pleasant shock and delight abounded as they glanced at the papers.
“They are delighted with the results,” said Principal Anne O’Callaghan. “It’s a great day for them as the hard work has paid off. It’s an indication of where they can go down the line with the Leaving Cert, but today is a day for celebrating…safely of course,” added Ms O’Callaghan.
Finally, there was a big crowd busily opening envelopes outside the main door of Mercy Mounthawk school.

Not surprising as an amazing 222 students sat the exams. We bumped into some very high achievers there, including Diana Meriakri with 11 A’s, Mairead Kearney had 10 A’s and Michael Moynihan with 9 A’s. Not bad considering just 240 students in the country achieved 10 A’s or more.
The Principal, John O’Roarke, was proud of every one of the students who achieved their potential in the exams.
“We’re very pleased with the results. The students did themselves proud right across the range of subjects,” he said. Scroll down for photos from the five schools…
