IT was another momentous year for the Tralee Parnells Hurling and Camogie Club as the members gathered for their awards night on Friday at The Rose Hotel.

The club made more progress this year with bigger numbers, an appearance at the Féile competition, making the minor county final and their Under 10 having a fantastic season. Not bad for a club that was was revived five years ago after a break of around 90 years.

Chairman of the club Dermot Reen was enthusiastic about the future.

“It’s been a marvellous year. One of the big highlights really was the fact that we had about 160 kids playing hurling and camogie and the numbers were growing towards the end of the year. We think we’re going to break 200 next year. The problem now is where we’re going to fit them all in. Caherslee won’t be big enough! It’s great to see the appetite for the game that’s out there,” he said.

“In terms of success on the field, the Under 10s had a fantastic year, the Under 14s qualified for Féile which was a great success, the Under 16s reached the county final and the minors reached the county final [jointly with Abbeydorney] and narrowly missed out,” said Dermot.

Medals were handed out in all age groups from Under 6s to minors in a club that is building something very special in Tralee. Scroll down for photos…
