THE talent of those who took evening art classes over the past eight months was plain to see at an exhibition in Coláiste Gleann Lí on Tuesday night.

Two sets of courses — one in the autumn and again in spring — saw a great attendance of men and women willing to learn a new skill or enhancing their artistic talent.

“Between the autumn and spring sessions we had around 65 attending,” said class tutor, June Hewitt Cournane. “Some were beginners, but many come back time and time again. They come from west Limerick, Knocknagoshel, Killarney, but many from around the Tralee area.”

“They love it and there’s a real sense of camaraderie and spirit among the group, it’s not just about the learning. These people here have become friends over the years,” said June, who has been teaching the classes for the past 19 years.

There was a great variety of subjects for the work — wildlife, nature, still life, relatives of the artists and some painted their work based on photographs.

Mervin Clifford, Director of Adult Education at Coláiste Gleann Lí, said he was delighted with the turnout for the exhibition and advised anyone who wants to get involved to look out for the next round of classes — which begin in October — on the Kerry ETB website.

Many of the artists and their families were present and looked on proudly as the fruits of their work were displayed. Scroll down for photos…
