POLITICAL party the Social Democrats are looking to form a Kerry branch.
On Wednesday night in the Brandon Hotel, an informal meeting took place to give locals an opportunity to get to know a more about the party, their policies and ideas for Kerry.
Party members hope the Social Democrats will be up and running in Kerry by Christmas.
“What we’re trying to do first off is get involved in community projects,” said one of the meeting’s organisers Ben Slimm. “We have to register with the Social Democrat party to be formally recognised so it is still very informal at the moment.”

Around ten people took part in the meeting where they discussed the foundation of a Kerry branch and the priorities of the branch. Two of the points of interest brought up were the Dale Road on the way to Ballybunion and the provision of mental health services in the county.
Though in its infancy the party are looking ahead at running a candidate in the next local council elections in 2019. To contact them see their Facebook page here.
The Social Democrats were founded in 2015 and are represented in the Dail by two TDs, Catherine Murphy and Róisín Shortall. The party made headlines last month when TD Steven Donnelly left them citing difficulties working with his two co-leaders.
