A PUBLIC consultation day on a proposed bypass to improve journey times between Tralee and Killorglin will take place next Thursday, August 2.

Members of the public and interested parties can view plans for the proposed N70 Milltown Bypass Road project at the Nagle-Rice Community Centre between 4pm to 8pm to view drawings and designs for the proposed road which would see a bypass of Milltown developed with the support of Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

The upgrade of the N70 route is supported by objectives in successive County Development Plans, with the need for a bypass of Milltown being a specific objective of the Kerry County Development Plan since 2009, as well as in the Local Area Plans, and is consistent with national policies for the development of the region and the county.

The objective of the proposed scheme is to improve journey times between Tralee and Killorglin on the busy N70 route and to alleviate traffic congestion in Milltown.

Work currently underway on a new road which will eliminate a series of bends at Kilderry between Milltown and Killorglin will be completed next year and the proposed bypass would represent a continuation of the route which would connect with the N70 between Milltown and Castlemaine.

Options for the proposed route will be presented at the consultation day and staff from the National Road Design Office of Kerry County Council will be in attendance.
