Radio Kerry Receives Seven PPI Radio Award Nominations

Deirdre Walsh’s Talkabout show is one of seven nominations for Radio Kerry in this year’s PPI Radio Awards.

RADIO Kerry is celebrating today after receiving seven nominations in the National PPI Radio Awards, to be held next month.

Some very familiar names such as Weeshie Fogarty, Deirdre Walsh and Jerry O’Sullivan are among those nominated for the awards which are considered the ‘Radio Oscars’ and will take place at a gala ceremony in Galway on October 9.

The station won two awards last year, including the coveted PPI Local Radio Station of the Year accolade.

The Kerry Today show, presented by Jerry O’Sullivan, has been shortlisted in the best current affairs programme category this year.

The TalkAbout programme presented by Deirdre Walsh has been nominated in the best magazine programme section.

In the news story category, Radio Kerry was shortlisted  for its coverage of the Star Wars shoot on Skellig Michael compiled by journalist Owen O’Shea.

The Radio Kerry sports team’s coverage of last year’s All Ireland Senior Football campaign is up for best sports story and the inimitable Weeshie Fogarty has been shortlisted in the sports broadcaster category.

A drama about the Lusitania from Dáithí McMahon and Fred O’Connor’s has been nominated and Radio Kerry has also been nominated for best station imaging.
