I commented recently that Causeway were putting up a lot of points on the scoreboard in the county league but did not get many goals.

They used the county league game against Crotta last week to rectify the goal situation and they put two past a hapless Lixnaw today.

The scoreline hardly reflects their dominance as they completely overpowered a Lixnaw team who never got any kind of rhythm going.

Lixnaw only scored one point from play in the first half Causeway added 1-10, their goal coming from young Gavin Dooley.

Causeway had six different scorers with their other youngster Dan Goggin scoring three points. Keith Carmody, who has returned to the side after injury, also put his name on the score sheet.

Lixnaw had a point each from Shane Conway and John Griffin with some Lixnaw “supporters” on their way out of the ground the score at halftime read Causeway 1-10 Lixnaw 0-2.

Lixnaw were a little better in the second half but unless they get back some the players they were missing today, they are going to be in a difficult position.

Dan Goggin poached a goal for Causeway as they powered their way to an easy victory, Causeway had no weak link either at the back or up front, they are very fit, skilful and have players all over the pitch who can win the ball in the air with their hand along with a good free taker.

Lixnaw for their part must hope for a kind draw in the next round, an improvement in their injury situation and their overall play.

Causeway lined out without former Kerry and Limerick keeper Tadhg Flynn who had a hand injury his return for the next round will give them a further boost.

Causeway march on, they know they will face stiffer opposition down the road.

St Brendan’s 0-17

Abbeydorney 0-11

Abbeydorney are out of the Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry senior hurling championship.

Michael Slattery opened Abbeydorney’s account with a point John Egan replied with a pointed free Michael O’Leary and the great Aiden Healy put Abbeydorney ahead by two points and it looked as St Brendan’s might be on their way out but they got their act together when Fionan MacKessey and Cian Hussey drew St Brendan’s level three points all.
