Runners Set To Take To Roads Of North Kerry

HERE’S a date for all you running people out there.

St. Mary’s Asdee GAA Club in association with Kerry Respite Care will be holding their third Half Marathon and 10km road race on this Saturday April 30.

The event will get underway at 10pm which will also incorporate a 5km fun run/walk.

All the routes will start and finish at the grounds of Asdee GAA, Jack Walsh Memorial Park. Last year’s 10km winner was Donal O’Callaghan, Riocht AC.

And will be hoping to retain his title. Also,in picture is Race Ambassador, John Griffin, Tralee; Top National athlete  (Kerry) and Dublin City Marathon winner; 1998 and 1999, second on two occasions and third on two occasions.

The event is open to all runners of any age or fitness level and from any county, but the organisers will also be expecting a number of competitive athletes, particularly for the half-marathon and 10km races.

It is AAI permitted and there will be medals for all finishers in our 5km, 10km and half-marathon races.

Hot food, tea, coffee and biscuits will all be provided afterwards in the marquee and there will be music to add to the atmosphere of the event.

All participants in all three races will receive a medal and there will be €350 worth of prize money given out afterwards to the winners.

The cost of entering the individual races are as follows:
· €10 for entering the 5km run for adults, €5 for U18′s doing the 5km
· €20 for entering the 10km run
· €30 for entering the Half-Marathon

20km/Half-Marathon Route:
Starts & Finishes at Jack Walsh Park, Asdee Gaa Grounds in Tullahinell. Passes Asdee village and turns left at Craughdarrig Cross (The Store Bar). Continues for a mile before turning right at Ballynoneen Bridge coming out again on the main Asdee-Ballybunion road at O’Sullivans/Stokes Garage. Proceeding down towards Tripoll, turning right at Kilconly school, up Beale hill, past Kilcolman coming out again at The Store Bar and proceeding on to the village before finishing at the Asdee GAA grounds.

10km/6 Mile Route:
Starts & Finishes at Jack Walsh Park, Asdee Gaa Grounds in Tullahinell. Passes Asdee village and turns left at Craughdarrig Cross(The Store Bar). Continues for a mile before turning right at Ballynoneen Bridge coming out again on the main Asdee-Ballybunion road at O’Sullivans/Stokes Garage. Heading back towards The Store Bar and Asdee village before finishing at Asdee GAA grounds.

5km/3 Mile Route:
Starts & Finishes at Jack Walsh Park, Asdee Gaa Grounds in Tullahinell. Pasees Asdee village and heads towards The Store Bar. It turns around there heading back towards Asdee village, then proceeding onwards to Laceys Cross, before finishing at Asdee Gaa grounds.
