A RECENT fundraising campaign by Glenderry NS in Ballyheigue has proven to be a massive success after they raised the huge sum of €32,000 for the development of a new astroturf pitch.

The school and parents association had made the decision at the start of the year that the area at the back of the school was perfect for the development of the project, which set in motion the the campaign to help raise the necessary funds.

After receiving a sum of €15,000 from the board of management (BOM) the group organised a night out at the greyhound stadium, which was held on May 23, from which they hoped to raise the rest of the money.

The night was a huge success with the school, board of management and the parents association managing to sell over 1,000 tickets for the highly entertaining night which included face painting, music and reunions with old friends.

The night managed to raise a huge €25,000 and combine this with the extra €7,000 donated by the parents association, and the school were delighted to reach their target figure.

Development of the pitch will begin this summer and it is hoped that it will be completed by September of this year.
