ST John of God Kerry Services is looking for applicants to fill a number of job vacancies in the county.

St John of God Kerry Services provides a range of programmes and services for adults and children with an intellectual disability throughout the Kerry region.

If you are looking for a new exciting challenge and share best practice, the following roles might be of interest.  Applications are invited for the following posts within their Services supporting adults with an intellectual disability.

Senior Speech and Language Therapist

(12 months Fixed Term Contract Part time 18.50 hours per week)

The successful candidates will be responsible for the development and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy services to people with intellectual disabilities and in close cooperation with multi-disciplinary clinical and frontline colleagues.

The successful candidate requires:

• A qualification in dysphagia and experience of working in this area with adults is essential.

• Experience with Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) and a Total Communication approach is desirable.

• Proven ability to work as part of a Multi Disciplinary Team

• Proven experience of establishing and delivering a speech and language programme

• Candidates will be required to have eligibility for membership of the Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists with satisfactory post qualification experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist as appropriate.

• A full clean drivers licence for manual vehicles is essential

Risk & Behaviour Management Support Co-ordinator

(Permanent Part time 19.50 hours per week)

Work using the Positive Behaviour Support model in supporting individuals, families and staff in relation to assessment, intervention, and implementation of positive behaviour support approaches.

The successful candidate requires:

• Degree or Diploma in the Health Service area (Social Care, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Education etc.).

• Have experience working with people with challenging behaviour and intellectual disabilities.

• Have successfully completed or undergoing Multi Element Behaviour Support Training.

• Knowledge and experience of individualised risk assessment.

• High level of report writing, with excellent communication skills, flexibility and commitment.

• A full, clean driver’s license suitable for manual vehicles.

Staff Nurses

(Full Time/Part Time Permanent, Relief Contracts)

The purpose of this role is to work with individuals to access social and recreational activities in accordance to their wishes and to provide nursing support as required in a number of our residential services across County Kerry.

The successful candidate requires:

• RNMH/RNID qualifications or other suitable nursing qualifications and to be a Staff Nurse on the current register as maintained by An Bord Altranais.

• 1 – 2 years relevant experience of supporting people with an intellectual disability is an advantage.

• Relevant experience of working with people who have behaviours that challenge is an advantage.

• Demonstrate excellent communication (both verbal and written), organisational skills, flexibility and commitment.

• Must have a full clean driver’s licence for a manual vehicle, D licence would be an advantage.

Staff Nurse (Children Services)

(Permanent Full-time 39.00 hours per week)

Working with children in our respite service, to access social and recreational activities in accordance to their wishes and to provide nursing support as required.

The successful candidate requires:

• RNMH/RNID qualifications or other suitable nursing qualifications and be a Staff Nurse on the current register as maintained by An Bord Altranais.

• Experience working with children with life limiting conditions or increased medical needs an advantage but not essential.

• Previous relevant experience of working with children with an intellectual disability and in particular those who have a moderate to profound disability.

• Relevant experience of working with people who have behaviours that challenge is an advantage.

• Flexibility to work the hours of duty as dictated by service delivery requirements is essential.

• A full clean driver’s licence for a manual vehicle, D licence would be an advantage.

Care Assistants

(Full Time/ Part Time Permanent/ Fixed Term, Relief Contracts)

This varied role involves working with a team to support individuals in their daily activities in their home and supporting the person to access the community.

The successful candidate requires:

• Certificate in Healthcare Support at FETAC Level 5.

• He/She supports and assists in all activities of daily living in line with the needs and wishes of the individual as outlined in an agreed care plan.

• Acting as an advocate for residents and promoting social interaction with the community.

• Demonstrate excellent communication (both verbal and written), organisational skills, flexibility and commitment.

• Must have a full clean driver’s licence for a manual vehicle, D licence would be an advantage.

Instructor Community Integration & Day Services

(Full Time & Part-time Permanent/Fixed Term Contract/Specified Purpose Contracts)

This role will support individuals to create opportunities to have valued social roles in their communities and provide learning and development opportunities.

The successful candidate requires:

• A relevant Third Level Qualification in Social Care, Education, Health and Leisure, Community or other (FETAC Level 6 or higher).

• A minimum one years’ experience of supporting adults with an intellectual disability.

• An ability to facilitate, instruct and support service-users in a variety of service and community based programmes.

• Previous experience in training and community development e.g. QQI with a creative approach to service delivery would be an advantage.

• Proficient IT skills and report writing.

• Excellent communication, teamwork, interpersonal and organisational skills.

• A full clean driver’s licence for a manual vehicle, D licence would be an advantage.

Instructor: Social & Recreational

(19.50 hours per week)

This role supports individuals through a variety of activities, including sports; aquatics and community outings.

The successful candidate requires:

• A Diploma in Leisure and Disability Studies.

• Must hold a Swim Teachers Certificate.

• Must have a Valid Lifeguard qualification (RLSS/IWS or equivalent).

• Demonstrable experience of supporting people with moderate to severe/profound intellectual disability to be active members of their community.

• A clear commitment to community inclusion and active citizenship for all people.

• A minimum of 1 years’ experience in working with adults with an intellectual disability.

• Aqua and Gym Instructor desirable.

• A full clean driver’s license for manual vehicles is essential, D license would be an advantage

Co-ordinator Community Based Day Services 

(Fixed Term 2 year contract Full-Time 39 hours per week)

The successful person will be responsible for the management and development of a number of programmes within County Kerry.

The successful candidate requires:

• A recognised 3rd Level qualification in Allied Health/Health and Social Care profession.

• At least 3 years post qualification experience of working with adults with an intellectual disability.

• In excess of two year’s demonstrable supervisory experience, along with excellent managerial and leadership skills.

• Experience of working with individuals who have moderate, severe to profound disabilities is desirable.

• Experience of working with individuals who present with behaviours that challenge is advantageous.

• Demonstrate evidence of continued commitment to professional development.

• Previous experience in training and community development e.g. QQI with a creative approach to service delivery.

• Demonstrate knowledge and leadership in New Directions and Person Directed Planning.

• Excellent communication skills essential.

• A full clean driver’s license for manual vehicles is essential.
