The St. Brendan’s U12s following their 34-30 win over St. Bridget’s in the KABB Cup Final

Boys U12 Cup Final:

St. Brendan’s 34 – St. Bridget’s 30

Following on from the Senior Men winning the National Intermediate Cup last weekend, the St. Brendan’s U12s landed the U12 KABB Cup title with a hard fought 34-30 win over St. Bridget’s from Currow at the Presentation Gym in Killarney last Saturday.

Brendan’s got off to a good start with scores from Eddie Sheehy and Jack Doyle and led by 12-8 at the end of the first quarter.

However St. Bridget’s stretched the Brendan’s defence to outscore the Tralee side by ten points to four in the second quarter and took a two point lead to the half time break 18-16.

The third quarter saw St. Brendan’s take back the initiative and the lead from Bridget’s by adding ten points to their tally and bringing a two point advantage into the final quarter.

Brendan’s defence was holding tough through Donal O’Sullivan and Coren Hughes and this allowed the likes of Andrew Wallace, Cian Griffin, Jack Doyle and Eddie Sheehy to capitalise with fast break baskets. In an exciting last quarter that saw both sides have chances to claim the title, it was Brendan’s that pulled clear to win by four on a final scoreline of St. Brendan’s 34 St. Bridget’s 30.

KCYMS 30 – St. Brendan’s 38

Our under 14 team travelled to Killorglin on Saturday to face KCYMS in the County League. The boys still without the services of James Fernane and Niall Fitzmaurice started the game well with early baskets from Tadgh Reen and Jimi O Sullivan.

KCYMS responded well but Rap Buivydas settled things with a deep three pointer. The 2nd quarter saw both sides struggle to dominate but Peter Kearns did manage to score all of our three quarter points. With that we trailed 15-14 at the half.

Rap Buivydas simply took the game over from here on scoring 22 of 24 points for the boys and finishing the game as the runaway top scorer. Brendan’s ran out winners on a scoreline of 30-38 and keep pressure on league leaders St Mary’s who visit us next Sunday in Moyderwell at 1.30.

Next up is TK Bobcats in Moyderwell on Wednesday 12th with tip-off at 7pm. The boys have been playing fantastic and are on a great run of form. Long may it continue.
