Juvenile Academy

U6: We welcomed our friends and neighbours, Annascaul last Sunday morning for fun games. Everyone involved had fun and it was a delight to spot a lot of talent on display. Congratulations to our player of the week, Dylan Murphy. Keep up the good work.

U8: Last Sunday St. Pat’s under 8’s welcomed the Annascaul under-eight team to our pitch for a ‘Go Game’. Go Games, for players up to under-11, are structured in a manner that encourages a level of fun, fair play and a sense of achievement from using the basic skills of Gaelic football. There is no publicising of scores or provision for presentation of trophies so that the emphasis will be on the sense of accomplishment from playing and becoming more proficient in the skills of the game.

Everyone put in a great effort against some very skilful Annascaul players and we will have a return game with them in the coming weeks. It’s important to practice your kicking skills at home during the week so try to do this for 15 minutes every day.

U10: St Pats  U-10’s took on our West Kerry  neighbours Annascaul at home last  Sunday morning. All our St Pats future stars played well on the day. Gary Scollard, Michael Enright, Eddie Stack, Killian O’Mahony and Aiden Hayes defended  well and gave it their all trying to keep the opposition from scoring. In the middle Jack Costello, Daniel Sheehy and Mark O’Brien worked very hard and linked up well with our forwards. Up front Darragh Murphy, Grainne Breen, Luke Passway and Caoilainn  Culloo got their hands on plenty of ball and worked some lovely score for their team. All the coaches were delighted with the effort each player gave.  It is important ye keep practicing yer skills at home during the week. Naomh Padraig Abu !!

U12 Mixed: Our U12 team took part in a blitz against Ardfert, Churchill and Na Gaeil at Blennerville on Saturday last.  We easily beat Ardfert in our opener, with our scores coming from Thomas Sheehy (4 goals, 2 points), Seanie Murphy (1-1), Callum Houston (2 points), and Paddy Moran (a point).  Next up were Na Gaeil, and we led for a long while through a point from Callum Hayes, a Callum Houston goal following a greet run and cross from Seanie, and a point from Caoimhe O’Sullivan. However, Na Gaeil ran their bench, and their fresh legs saw them outscore us by 2-3 to 1-2 at the end.

This meant that our third match against Churchill would decide who met Na Gaeil in the Final.  This was a tremendously close game throughout,  and following extra time we came out the right side of a scoreline of 4-4 to 3-4.  Seanie was our scorer in chief here with 2-4 of our total.  The other goals came from the Murphys (Orla and Daragh).  The final was a bit one-sided, as our lads were worn out by the additional effort expended in the extra time of the Churchill game.

Every member of the panel deserves great credit for playing the full complement of matches, and for the huge effort put in through the morning.  James Dowling was tremendous in goals, making save after save to keep us in the running when the pressure was on.  One triple save in particular stood out.  At the back for most of the day, Eddie Hayes, Thomas Sheehy, Caoimhe O’Sullivan, and Orla Murphy proved difficult opponents for all comers.  Callum Houston and Paddy Moran ran the midfield channels well. In fact, Callum won almost every throw in, putting us on the front foot at the beginning of every half of football.  Up front, Seanie Murphy, Callum Hayes, Daniel Sheehy, and Daragh Murphy were always a handful for opposing defenders.

This was just reward for a hard-working bunch of kids.  Hopefully, they will continue to improve and will gain confidence from the strong results and performances they put in on Saturday.

Special thanks to Mary Wallace and Marie Fitzgibbon who served refreshments, referees Jack Lynch and Sean Horgan and also Fergal O’Brien and James Stack who helped in no small way.

U14: Our U14’s are scheduled to play Ardfert this Saturday, 7th at 11am in a St Brendans board fixture with Churchill playing Na Gaeil at 12.10pm. The winners of both matches will go on to meet in the final at 2.30pm. All matches are in the new Churchill field.

U16: Our U16’s were defeated by Ardfert in Round 5 Div 1 of the Tralee Town Board League last Sunday on a scoreline of Ardfert 0-10 St Pats 2-02 with our goals coming from Luke O’Carroll and Fergal O’Brien

Jigsaw Kerry

Ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, extreme endurance athlete Gavan Hennigan will be delivering a talk entitled “Developing Mental Resilience”. Gavan’s story is an inspiring one; his life hasn’t always been about extreme adventures. As a young person, Gavan suffered badly at the hands of alcohol and drug addiction. He managed to turn his life around and has stayed clean and sober ever since. His story is definitely one to be heard. The event, takes place in the Rose Hotel, Dan Spring Rd, Tralee, Co. Kerry on October 8th 2017, with refreshments at 7pm and the talk beginning at 7.30pm. Contact Jigsaw Kerry on 066 718 6785 to book a ticket.

 Astro Pitch

Our all-weather astro pitch is available for hire at very competitive rates. It is flood-lit, so training or whatever use you may have for it can also be accomplished in the evenings now that the days are getting shorter. Contact James Costello on 0862908735 for booking and more information.
