Tralee Shield U 15 Competition

St.Pats 2-16 v Ballymac 1-10.

Our u15’s travelled to Ballymac last Sunday morning to compete in the Tralee championship shield competition and came away with a well-deserved win.  Every player gave it 100% and showed all their supporters and mentors what a great team they are and how far they have come.

Gavin Doody, goalie and captain played another great game making numerous saves and finishing off his day with a lovely speech. Our back line of Brian Teahan, Damien Quirke and Kieran O’ Donoghue all defended very well and made it very difficult for the Ballymac forwards to get their scores.

Our half back line of Ian Mc Carthy, Ali Gardezi and Martin Savage were outstanding and covered every blade of grass on the field and Ian managed to make his way to the forward line and rattle the net.

Our Midfielders of Cathal Fitzgibbon and Patrick Dowling both ran themselves into the ground while also winning plenty ball and Patrick still managed to kick three super points.

They both linked very well together and gave great ball into the half forward line of Luke O’ Carroll, Jamie O’Brien and Tomas O’ Sullivan. This forward line showed great heart and determination throughout the game and they all got their names on the scoreboard while also setting up great opportunities for the full forward line of Nathan Rowan, Fergal O’Brien and Paddy Murphy.

Nathan scored a lovely point and himself and paddy worked well together giving off great ball and setting up a lot of Fergal’s scores. Fergal played a stormer and his accuracy was superb on the day scoring a total of 1-9 from frees and play.

Our subs that were introduced in this game were Niall McCarthy, Cormac Lynch, Danny Greaney and Michael Doody and they all had a huge impact on the game.

Well done to this fantastic team and to the mentors Seamus Murphy and Frank O’Brien for helping this great team finish off their year on a high note. Thanks to our hosts and opponents Ballymac for the competitive game and our appreciation also goes to Tralee District Board for providing games in November.

Panel: Gavin Doody (Captain) Tomas O’Sullivan, Nathan Rowan, Brian Teahan, Tagdh Kerins, Ian McCarthy, Niall McCarthy, Paddy Murphy, Ciaran O’Donoghue, Martin Savage, Ali Gardezi, Michael O’Sullivan, Cormac Lynch, James O’Sullivan, Damien Quirke, Nathan Moriarty O’Shea, Fergal O’Brien, Luke O’Carroll, Jamie O’Brien, Oisin Spillane, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Danny Greaney, Patrick Dowling, Dylan Griffin

Senior Team

Ardfert won the St Brendan’s Senior Football final played in sunny but cold and windy conditions in Ardfert last Saturday afternoon.

The game was very physical and ill-tempered in the first half which saw 4 red cards and a yellow issued: Ardfert 2 reds and a yellow to St Pat’s 2 red cards. Ardfert started the match in blistering form scoring 4 unreplied points after 10 minutes, with the home side much quicker and hungrier for the ball.

St Pats’ first score came off the boots of Gary Savage after 13 minutes of play and it was one worth waiting for with the scorer selling dummies before pointing over.

Ardfert hit back with 2 points in succession from Shane Griffin after which the game became very ill-tempered after Ardfert’s Darren Dineen saw red for striking Brendan Poff.

Shortly after that incidence, David O’Callaghan and Kevin Shanahan were both sent off as the game almost descended to a brawl, which also saw Kieran Hurley going in for an early shower after a robust challenge on his marker.

The game was held up for a few minutes and on resumption, Shane Griffin scored the last point of the half to leave the scores at Ardfert 0-7 St Pats 0-1.

Playing with the wind in the second half, St Pats introduced James Costello to steady the ship and it yielded dividends as St Pats scored the half’s first 3 points. Ardfert’s Brandon Barrett scored his side’s first point of the half and the most controversial moment of the match came mid-way into the half when an Ardfert player was through on goal, highly pursued by James Costello, who succeeded in tapping the ball out of his hands with the momentum sending his marker to the ground. The referee ruled it a penalty and the resultant spot kick was converted by Rory Horgan as they led by seven.

Bobby O’Reagan added another point from a free as the home side were pulling away. Brendan Poff, now playing in the full forward position, scored two points to reduce the gap but poor decisions meant we were unable to further reduce the deficit.

However, St Pats hit a purple patch towards the end of the match with points from Kevin O’Shea, Luke Mulligan and Brendan Poff but it was the home side that came out victorious by the penalty converted earlier in the half. Full time scores were Ardfert 1-10 St Pats 0-10
