Dingle Way Challenge 2017

It’s that time of the year again! Yes, The Dingle Way Challenge will take place on Sunday the 4th of June (keep this date free in your diaries).

This walk is ideal for groups, teams, friends and solo hikers and you can either opt for The Dingle Way Challenge, a 34km walk which will involve a mixture of grass paths and road walking where walkers will get to experience the famous An Ghaeltacht GAA pitch in Murrioch (there will be a food stop here), the football club of the famous former Kerry footballers, Marc, Tomas and Darragh Ó Sé and culminating in Cloghane, via the valley that lies between Mount Brandon and Conor Pass or The Ultra Dingle Way Challenge, a 45km walk which starts at Dingle harbour, as the normal route, taking you through a tough 12km mountain route over Mount Brandon and finishing up at Cloghane, where there will be BBQ on arrival.

Buses going back to the clubhouse will be provided where there will be showers available for those who need it. There will also be music in Quane’s later that evening.

This Challenge gives locals and tourists alike a great opportunity to experience the stunning scenery that West Kerry has to offer in a fun, safe and challenging environment.

This year’s route is slightly shorter than last year but don’t be fooled as the Ultra section more than makes up for it. Registration can be completed on the Dingle Way Challenge’s Facebook page.

Juvenile Academy

U6: Well done to Paddy Flynn, Isaac Price, Jayden Sinnott and Hannah Enright who put in a great training session last Sunday morning but a huge well done to Thomas Colivet who received our player of the week trophy by showing great skill and determination throughout the session. Keep up the good work.

U8: The sunny weather last Sunday morning certainly brightened up our first outdoor session of the year for the under 8’s. What an enthusiastic bunch of boys and girls gathered on the all-weather pitch for what was a very good training session with everyone participating fully and enjoying themselves.

Judging by the kicking for scores some of our under 8’s have been practising at home as the balls were sent flying through the air and over the bar so well done to Ródhan Culloo, Gearóid Hingston, Keelin Sinnott, Erin O’Shea and James Daly.

It was great to see Ryan Fitzgerald, Sarah Enright, Stephen Enright and Sarah Greaney back in full flight and we hope to see you all more often showing off your skills

Great effort was also put in by Eddie Hayes, Cian O Halloran, Aoife Kennedy, Chloe Passway, Niamh Murphy and Patryk Lukasz – it’s great to see such enthusiasm. With all the great effort put in by everyone we have to say a very well done to Nikodem Lukasz who was our Player of the Week .

Next Sunday we will be visiting the Kerins O’Rahillys U8’s for some fun games at 11 a.m. in their grounds at Ballyrickard and we hope to have all our panel of under 8’s present.

U10: St Pats under 10’s Academy were training again last Sunday on home turf. There was a great turnout of players all eager to show off their skills. It was great to see all the players putting in a great effort especially Daniel Sheehy, Killian O’Mahony, Rory Daly and Gary Scollard. Well done to player of the week Caoilainn Culloo keep up the good work. We are due to play Kerins O’Rahillys at home this Sunday we will confirm same during the week. It’s important everyone keeps practicing their skills at home Naomh Padraig abú

U12: Our U12’s had their first competitive outing of the season when they were away to Beale in the county League. Unfortunately, we lost to an impressive Beale team. Our next match is at home to Glenbeigh/Glencar this Sunday at 6pm in Blennerville. We will have two training sessions on Tuesday at 6pm and Friday at 6.30pm to prepare for this game. Keep an eye out via our text messaging service for any changes, if any, due to Kerry’s involvement in the Allianz Football League Final this Sunday at 4pm.

U12 Girls: Training continues for our girls every Tuesday afternoon at 3 to 4pm in Blennerville National School Hall.

U14: We play Templenoe/Sneem/Derrynane away in the second round of the County League on Wednesday, 5th April at 7pm. Best of luck to all.

U16: U16 Central League, St Pat’s 3-11 Ballymacelligott 3-10.

If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it!  After a first minute goal scare (brilliantly averted by Brian), St Pat’s came to life and outscored their opponents 2-7 to 0-3 in the first period.  The goals came from Fergal and Cormac, with points also from Fergal (3), Luke (2), Patrick and Daragh (1 each).  in the second period, Ballymac threw off the shackles, and had scored 1-4 before Patrick settled St Pat’s nerves with a brace of points. Ballymac continued to grow into the game and eventually additional scores from Adib (a goal), Fergal and Daragh (1 point each) saw the home team through by the minimum.

Squad: Gavin Doody, Brian Teahan, Niall McCarthy, Ali Gardezi, Ian McCarthy, Martin Savage, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Ciaran O’Donoghue, Patrick Dowling, Luke O’Carroll, Fergal O’Brien, Cormac Lynch, Daragh Moriarty, James O’Sullivan, Adib Hossain, Tadhg Kerins, Paddy Murphy, Nathan Rowan, Erik Son, Oisin Spillane.

Our next game is away to John Mitchels this Monday the 3rd at 7pm.

Seniors

Our seniors hope to get their first points on the board when they play Ardfert away in this revised Round 3, Division 2 of the County League encounter this Saturday, the 8th April. Throw-in is at 6pm. Best of luck to all.

Road Clean Up 2017

Curraheen Community Council will hold a clean-up of the road from Tonevane to Derrymore West this Saturday, April 8th. We appeal to everybody living along this route to please come out and help us. We will meet at the old petrol station, Curraheen at 8am. Bags, gloves and litter pickers will be provided.
