St PatsLotto

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €11,300. The numbers drawn were 09, 13, 24 & 27. The five €30 consolation prizes went to Catherine O’Callaghan; Deirdre Galvin, Cromane; E Keating, Gallowsfield; Joe McElligott, Crotta & Brendan Poff, Lohercannon.

This week’s jackpot will be €11,400 and the draw will take place this Sunday night July 13th at 10pm in Skelper Quane’s Bar. Lotto tickets available from the usual outlets or any club officer.

Astro-Turf

We received two pieces of great new during the last week. The club received full planning permission last Tuesday for a 60mtr x 30mtr fully floodlit astro-turf pitch.

Following from that, Minister Michael Ring announced on Thursday details of a grant of €62,255 for the club towards the cost of completing the project. Once completed, this facility will be made available free of charge to the local national schools in the parish and used to promote Gaelic Games and healthy living in our community.

It will also provide an all year round, state of the art training facility for all our teams to develop their skills. The club will still require a fundraising drive to complete the facility but we are a long way there thanks to our dancers, walkers and lotto tickets buyers.

Every cent collected from our Strictly Come Dancing & Dingle Way Challenge will be used for this project.

We would also like to thank Minister Deenihan & TD Arthur Spring for their support. Arthur Spring took a huge personal interest in our project, meeting our team on several occasions to offer advice and lobbying hard on our behalf. We are very grateful for his support.

Juniors

Our juniors were beaten by a strong Na Gaeil team last Monday night week at home on a score line of 1-12 to 1-8. They were scheduled to play John Mitchels at home in round two last Monday night.

Result in next week’s notes. Churchill defeated St Senan’s in the final game of the Junior Town League. They will now face Duagh this Friday night in the semi final with the winners playing St Pats; most likely on the following Friday night at a neutral venue.

St Brendan’s Teams

Well done to the St Brendan’s U21 team who defeated Kerins O’Rahillys in the U21 County Championship last week by a point. They will now play Shannon Rangers in Ardfert in Round Two on Monday July 21st at 7pm.

The Senior team will play Dingle in Round 3 of the Senior County Championship this Saturday night at 6pm in Austin Stacks Park. We wish both teams the best of luck.

Cúl Camps

The Kellogg’s GAA Football Camp will take place in Blennerville from July 28th to August 1st . The camp is for boys & girls aged 6 to 13. We would hope to increase on the huge numbers that we had last year.

Each child will be given free sports gear. GAA players will teach the skills of Gaelic Football in a safe and fun filled environment from Monday to Friday 10am to 2.30pm.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the many people from the locality who completed the Ring of Kerry last weekend.

Area Mass

The Lohercannon / Hare Street / Blennerville Residents’ Association have organised a community mass which we are having adjacent to ‘The Ring’ area of Lohercannon on Thursday July 17 at 7.30pm. After the mass we will have a little get-together and light refreshments and we would love to see you there.

Tralee Tidy Towns Competition

We have also entered the Local Tidy Towns’ Competition and judging will commence mid-July. To this effect, we urge all residents to keep the areas around your homes weed free and to pay particular attention to the upkeep of the communal Green Areas.

Sympathy

The club would also like to extend its sympathy to the families & relatives of Maureen O’Sullivan, Ballinorig Estate & Terence Foley, Caherslee. May They Rest In Peace
