Fudge Needs Your Votes To Win ‘Nose Of Tralee’ Title

.
Fudge represents Kerry in the Nose of Tralee.

VOTING opens today in the national ‘Nose of Tralee’ competition and a Kerry dog needs your help to win the title.

Fudge is an eight years old, long-haired Jack Russell and the much loved family pet of Sandra O’Sullivan from Ballybunion. She entered Fudge in the annual competition run by Pet Sitters Ireland and sponsored by Tesco, which is now in its 10th year.

Fudge was chosen as the Kerry entry and Sandra is hoping he’ll fend off competition from the 31 other counties to claim the sash and be declared Ireland’s cutest pet.

“Fudge first lived with my sister Lisa and her family,” explained Sandra from Ballybunion. “On one occasion my parents looked after him while they were away. They were totally smitten with him and didn’t want to part with him on Lisa’s return.

“It was decided then that he would live with them and Lisa and her family could visit everyday. Then, after 30 years living and working in Dublin, I moved back home to Ballybunion to help with my elderly parents during the pandemic.

“I was never allowed to have a pet in apartment living in Dublin. I was surprised at how fast I fell in love with him and he totally saved all three of us during COVID times. We are now inseparable and he comes everywhere with me,” said Sandra.

Voting is open now so click here and give Fudge your No.1.

Rocco was found straying on the streets of Tralee around 18 months ago, so Caroline took him in while trying to find his owner.

“After a month looking we decided to keep him and he has bought so much life and love into our lives,” said Caroline in her entry on the Nose of Tralee voting page.

“Our previous dog Sandy died couple of years ago and our cat Casper was dying due to cancer, so we had a lot of sadness in the house. But with Rocco it was like he was sent to us because he bought so much love and goofyness with him.”

He doesn’t realise how big he is and knocks over things as he bounce’s around the place. Rocco loves everyone, people, dogs, cats and small animals in general. We are so blessed to have him in our lives. He has made us a happy family again. If anyone deserves the title it’s our boy Rocco,” she said.

Voting in the final is now open so if you want to vote for Rocco, click on the following link, find Rocco and follow the instructions. You can vote once a day. https://www.petsittersireland.com/vote-nose/

WHILE the Rose crown may be on its way back to Meath, there’s still cause for celebration down here in the kingdom after Kerry dog Ginger secured the title of the Nose of Tralee 2015.

Beating out stiff competition from around the country along the way, Ginger has scooped the prize in the second year of the competition after she gained huge online support which led to her receiving over 15,000 votes (click here for our previous story on Ginger)

“It’s amazing, we had a few people over last night for the results. We were delighted, it’s still kind of sinking in really. She had her first outing as the Nose of Tralee today,” said Ginger’s owner Stacey Wallace speaking to TraleeToday.ie on Wednesday.

“At the end, we had just under 15,000 votes and we were about 1,800 votes ahead of Dublin when they closed the lines. Between all the people in Kerry and all the different rescue centres, they’ve all been supporting her, sharing her [online] every day and voting every day. We didn’t expect this to take off as much as it did. 15,000 votes at the end of three weeks was just incredible,” she continued.

“She’ll be the face of Pet Sitters Ireland for the year, and our own aim down here will be to use these 12 months to help rescues and to give recognition to Animal Help Net Kerry (AHNK) and after that, we hope to do whatever we can to raise awareness for animal cruelty all over Ireland,”

“With AHNK, when we get Gingers photo shoot done, we plan on doing Christmas cards and calendars for the new year. We’re going to start with that and obviously all proceeds will go to AHNK. They do it every year and they might sell a little bit more if Ginger is on it,” she finished.

Stacey Wallace and Ginger will be hoping to bring home the ‘Nose of Tralee’ crown to Kerry this year.

THE hopes of the county in this year’s ‘Nose of Tralee 2015’ competition are pinned on a little dog called Ginger from Tralee.

Stacey Wallace’s dog is this year’s Kerry finalist in the second year of the national competition which will see dogs from the 32 counties taking part.

Stacey is hoping that Ginger’s inspirational rescue story will will steal the hearts of both the public and judges for those all important votes.

“Ginger was rescued in 2012 by Animal Help Net Kerry after living in the wild for months and had all the signs of a bad start to life,” said Stacey.

“In March 2013, I adopted her and she became part of our family. She was so scared of everything for the first few months including children, loud noises, going for walks, even being out in the rain scared her. Thankfully though, the Ginger we all know and love is a changed dog now,” she continued.

“She loves going for walks, loves her comfort, loves her food, she doesn’t really understand how to play with toys yet but loves playing with her family. She loves the mornings and never lets anyone sleep in after 7 am. She comes up to the bed letting me know it’s time to get up. The lazy pup is back in bed again by lunch time…. and god forbid you might wake her,” Stacey laughed.

Ginger and her escort Prince will be hoping to bring home the big prize, but they need your votes to help do so.

In true ‘Nose of Tralee’ finalist fashion, Ginger has already been given her own escort in Prince (complete with tuxedo and all!) who will be helping her in any way to win the competition.

“Having Ginger represent County Kerry has been incredible, but to have her win the overall title of the Nose of Tralee would be a dream come true. I have no doubt the people of Kerry will get behind her and vote because she is a deserving winner. She has come on so much from the girl rescued in 2012 and it has been amazing to watch her transform into such a happy, playful dog,” she said.

If you would like to get behind the campaign to help Ginger take home the prize, then you will find all the information and the link to the voting page on Ginger’s Facebook page here.
