The proceeds from the night will go towards catering for their increasing membership and the club now boasts over 500 players at all age groups male and female.

This upward growth in playing and coaching numbers  is reflected in their success on the playing fields and in Scór competitions. They’ve had a fantastic  year with promotion to Division 3 of the County League, an appearance in the Junior Premier County Final and three minors on the Kerry panel this year.

This year also saw All Ireland Junior, All Ireland U 16 Ladies, Sigerson Cup and numerous Bord nOG medals won by Na Gaeil players.

The funds raised will go towards improving their playing fields, both senior and juvenile, maintaining dressing room, male and female, to a very high standard, the installation of floodlights, fitting out and equipping gymnasium, and improving car parks.

THE GAA will be more like the GEE-GEES (sorry), when Na Gaeil host a race night this Saturday at Na Gaeil clubhouse, under starting orders at 8:30pm.

All money raised from the night will be pumped right back into the club to maintain the high standard its members have come accustomed to.

“Come for the fun, it’s always a great night and is a vital fundraiser for Na Gaeil,” said Theresa Kelliher of the club.

A signed copy of Paul Galvin’s new book will be one of the many spot prizes, along with a €100 for best dressed lady and best hat. Men who go the extra furlong for the night could be in the running  to win a hamper for best hat.

“Everyone’s asking me what’s in the men’s hamper, but they’ll have to come and find out,” said Teresa.

It was a successful year for Na Geail. The highlights being Kerry minor, Andrew Barry, collecting the club’s first ever inter-county All-Ireland medal and the senior team winning Division 4 of the County League.

CHURCHILL GAA folk gathered in The Oyster Tavern on Friday night for the annual race night fundraiser.

The event is one of the main fundraisers of the year for the club.

“We’ve been doing this for around ten years. It’s been very well supported with over 200 horses sold. We have about 25 sponsors on the night,” said Stephen Buttimer of the club.

The club’s season is coming to a close with just one match remaining on Sunday away to Castlegregory.

“We’re playing our last match in the county league Division 4 on Sunday. We still have a mathematical chance of promotion if we win but it’s down to other results. It’s a long shot to use horsing parlance but we’re still in it at this stage,” said Stephen.

It was also an occasion to honour Ivan Parker who won a Munster and All-Ireland medal with Kerry (the first for the club since Seamus Griffin in 1946) and Eoin O’Brien who was a member of the minor panel for the Munster championship.
