Albert Hammond

Albert Hammond.

THE name Albert Hammond may not be instantly recognisable to some, but chances are, if you have any interest in music you know his work.

His songs have been responsible for the sale of over 360 million records worldwide including over 30 chart-topping hits and he’ll be playing a lot of them when he comes to Siamsa Tíre this autumn.

The Walker Brothers’ ‘The Air That I Breathe’? That’s him. Leo Sayer’s ‘When I Need You’? Him too.

Starship’s ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’, Joe Dolan’s ‘Make Me An Island’ and ‘You’re Such A Good Looking Woman’, Whitney Houston’s ‘One Moment In Time’ and countless others came from the American hit writer.

Mind you, some would say his greatest creation was his son, Albert Hammond Jr, lead guitarist with alt-rock legends The Strokes.

His live performances showcase his tremendous musical abilities and with his four piece band he’ll present a stunning two-and-a-half hour journey through five decades of hits.

Expect to hear hits including ‘It Never Rains In Southern California’, ‘The Free Electric
Band’, ‘The Air That I Breathe’, ‘Down By The River’, ‘One Moment In Time’ and ‘I’m A Train’.

Artists who have recorded his songs include Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Elton John, Joe Cocker, Diana Ross, Johnny Cash, K.D. Lang, Julio Iglesias and Josh Groban, to name just a few.

Albert Hammond plays Siamsa Tire on Friday, October 16 at 8pm. Tickets: €26 can be bought by clicking here
