THE Tralee Community Allotment Project has been presented with the Community Vibrancy Recognition Programme Award.

Representatives from Kerry Group and NEWKD were in attendance at the Moyderwell allotments for the presentation on Monday.

The Project is being recognised to acknowledge the valuable contribution made to community vibrancy, specifically for the regeneration area of Tralee; for the social supports in the provision of community-based environmental activities and for community, environment and rural development leadership.

Tralee Community Allotments Project was established in 2010 with the opening of the Moyderwell allotments as part of the wider Mitchels/Boherbee Community Regeneration Initiative.

The project has since expanded to included allotment in Marian Park and Rahoonane. In Moyderwell there are 20 individual and 10 community allotments, Rahoonane has 30 individual allotments and Marian Park has 20 individual allotments.

The allotments provide people with an opportunity to meet and share their growing experiences with each other, while also providing a chance to learn about food production and creating an understanding of ecosystems.

The Community Vibrancy Recognition Programme is a three year programme recognising the diversity and vibrancy of community work in the region. Recipient are nominated locally through the NEWKD structures which operate in Tralee, Listowel, Castleisland and Dingle.
