Paul Hanrahan of Action Lesotho meets a woman whose sight was restored thanks to the charity.

A TRALEE charity has helped restore the sight of a woman who has been blind for years and had never seen one of her children.

Paul Hanrahan of the Tralee-based charity Action Lesotho is currently in the African country and met a woman who went blind 3 years ago from undiagnosed diabetes.

Thanks to the actions of the Action Lesotho care team — funded by donations from the public — they arranged for her to have an operation which successfully fully restored her sight last week.

“She saw one of her children for the first time and was able to recognise our care worker from her voice,” said Paul.

“In this picture (above) when I showed her a picture I had just taken of her, she broke into a smile saying that she had forgotten what she looked like! I suppose when you live with your mother and 3 small children in a 10’x10’ room and your blind, mirrors are not a priority,” added Paul.

An inspiring story of what the funds raised by Kerry people can do. Action Lesotho is an Irish NGO based in Tralee founded by Paul Hanrahan in 2005, whose aim is to bring much needed humanitarian and development aid from Ireland to the Kingdom of Lesotho. For more click here.
