A TRALEE man has written a book on the Bible which will be launched later this month at Our Lady and St Brendan’s Pastoral Centre.

‘For It Is Written’, by retired teacher Michael Culloty, takes the reader on a journey through the Bible, weaving the story of the Old and New Testaments together, through the common thread that is Jesus Christ.

The observation of St Augustine that “the New is in the Old concealed: the Old is in the New revealed” provides a fitting summary of the book.

In exploring connections between the Old and the New, the author presents the overarching story of the Bible – the love of God in the person of Jesus Christ for the world — in an easy to read manner, which takes one through the three major divisions of the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament gospels and epistles, and the life of Christ.

The book closes with perspectives on prayer and praying, as presented in the Bible, and engages the reader with a mixture of information, history, reflection and spiritual application.

Academics have praised the book.

“What you hold in your hands is a labour of love from someone who is both knowledgeable and passionate about the Scriptures and who communicates that in a way that is accessible and engaging,” said Dr Jessie Rogers, St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. “Mike has written an explicitly Christ-centred introduction to the Bible that helps people to join the dots between the Old and the New Testament in a way that opens up the spiritual riches of God’s Word for ordinary people”.

Anne Alcock, MA, Pastoral Theology, wrote: “The author, Mike Culloty has, as he says, set out to “join the dots” between the Old Testament and the person and presence of Jesus. Working with a careful blend of informative historical context, and spiritual application for ourselves, he traces these links in a warm and readable style”.

The book will be launched on Saturday, March 24 at 7.30pm at Our Lady and St Brendan’s Pastoral Centre. It is priced at €12 and will be available locally at Polymaths, O’Mahony’s and First Chapter at Manor West.
