Timothy V Murphy and Bertie Brosnan are to collaborate on new project.
LOCAL filmmaker and screenwriter Bertie Brosnan is teaming up with fellow Tralee man and Hollywood-based actor Timothy V. Murphy, fo a short film about the legendary Irish High King Brian Ború.
The film’s title will be announced later, with an estimated running time of 15-20 minutes. The story’s setting is when Ború has already reached High King status, focusing on a specific event in his career.
“Discussions have occurred with Tim for quite a while,” said Bertie. “He is my number one for this role – I honestly couldn’t see anyone else play Brian; his presence, look, skills and accent are everything; he is a total natural.”

“I am delighted to have the opportunity of bringing Brian Ború to the screen; it’s long overdue!” said Timothy V Murphy.
“Bertie’s screenplay hooked me in, and it feels like a great way to introduce Irish stories and characters of this magnitude to an International audience,” he added.
The story itself is a snapshot into a broader storyworld which Brosnan and Murphy want to expand into after this project.
Feature film ideas and pilot scripts are in various stages of development featuring the character of Brian Ború, with the short film being a proof of concept style project.
“It was decided that a high-quality cinematic short film was the best route to enter the market,” said Bertie. “It is more feasible, so we can prove the concept of bringing ancient Irish Historical characters to life for the screen. It is an untapped plethora of tales, mythology, characters, and events waiting to be told cinematically. We are excited and honoured to get going on this!”
Bertie has succeeded with his short films in the past, signing distribution deals at the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2018. He also won two film & writing grants from Cork City Council and Kerry Arts Division in 2016 and 2018.
Timothy V. Murphy’s acting credits, include appearances on True Detective, Appaloosa, 24, Sons Of Anarchy, The Lone Ranger and many, many more.
As the project is just moving from development to pre-production, Brosnan has begun the search for a talented team and cast that understands the entire vision for this project and future intellectual property.
