Kerry Under 15s:
The Kerry Under 15 hurlers celebrated their success in winning the Munster Shield competition Friday evening with a medal presentation in the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee.
Winning the competition in Clarecastle in August, with two players from Parnells on the panel, was a significant achievement for this team and represents another step forward in the right direction.
The year began for this squad back in early November 2015 with in-door strength and conditioning sessions in John Mitchels GAA Hall under the expert guidance of Damien Ryall. They continued these weekly sessions for a total of 15 weeks and also mixed in few indoor hurling training sessions before the competitive action commenced. Another new initiative this year was the appointment of an outside coach by the Munster Council to assist with development squads.
The Kerry Under 15 hurlers were delighted to welcome Ger Downes, an excellent and proven Limerick coach. In the Munster Inter-County competition in Clarecastle, Kerry were delighted to win the Shield with excellent victories over Limerick and Waterford.
Kilkenny’s Martin Fogarty was the guest of honour presenting the medals and giving an inspirational talk that went down very well with the players and their families. Martin holds the newly established role of National Hurling Development Manager and it was great to see him taking an interest in underage hurling in the Kingdom.
Martin Fogarty was a selector/coach with Brian Cody and Kilkenny senior teams from 2005 to 2013, during which Kilkenny won six All Ireland Senior titles. He also managed Kilkenny U21’s to two All-Ireland championships in 2003 and 2004.
The establishment of the role of National Hurling Development Manager was one of the recommendations of the Hurling 2020 Committee, appointed by Iar-Uachtarán Liam Ó Néill and chaired by former Tipperary All-Ireland winning manager and player Liam Sheedy.
Parnells chair Dermot Reen took advantage to the opportunity to introduce Tralee Parnells players Darragh Reen and Ruarí O Sullivan to Martin Fogarty and he was presented with a copy of the recently created Tralee Parnells Club development plan that has a huge emphasis on underage coaching and development in our area.
Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership:
Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) works to encourage, promote and support the people of Kerry to participate in sport and physical activity. KRSP are supportive of the Tralee Parnells schools coaching programme.
Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) was established in response to the Irish Sports Council’s (ISC) Local Sports Partnership national initiative. The ISC viewed the Local Sports Partnership network as a means to developing and delivering sport and physical activity at a local level.  Kerry Local Sports Partnership was formally recognised in December 2003 to achieve these objectives in Kerry.
In April 2011 Kerry Local Sports Partnership rebranded and launched under a new name “Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership” to reflect the Partnership’s focus on recreational activity as well as on mainstream sports.  The Partnership structure is made up of representatives from a variety of agencies and communities within Kerry, and operates as a sub-structure of the Kerry County Development Board.  More info online at http://www.kerryrecreationandsports.ie/ and at https://www.facebook.com/kerryrecreationandsportspartnership
