Tralee Bayb SwimmingDarkness into Light Swim

We were one of 3 swimming clubs in the country to organise a Darkness into Light Swim as an alternative to the walk / run . Organised by Kevin Williams , swimmers and crew arrived in Fenit at 4.45am and got ready to swim with light sticks attached . The swim began in darkness at 5am and finished at 5.30 just as the sky cleared and a magnificent sunrise brightened everyone’s morning . 19 swimmers took part and were ably managed in the water with kayak support from John and Eoin Edwards . Well done to all.

Swimming conditions

May has been a poor start to the season with below average temperatures of both air and water. Water temps are hovering between 10.5 and 12 degrees. This has led to a noticeable decrease in evening swimming activity. Hopefully the temps will be rising soon .

World Series Round 1

The first round of our World Series took place last Thursday evening in poor conditions . Heavy rain turned into a light mist for the swim with a slight chop on the water . As it was the first dip of the year for a many , there were more than a few shocked faces as they entered the water! However it did not deter as 74 swimmers took part . Brothers Michael and Brendan OConnell battled to the finish for fastest time of the night with our Special Olympic Swimmer Brendan just being pipped at the post .

Our new club duty roster had 12 swimmers helping out with kayaking and timing . There is about another 25 swimmers yet to start , so it looks like a busy season ahead . Congratulations to the 3 Group winners . A Alan Murphy , B Siobhain Griffin and C Martin Grealish.

Round 2 will take place on Thursday the 4th of June , not the 5th as advertised . We might even have a barbecue if the weather allows !
