TRALEE Tidy Towns is still celebrating its success in the national competition — the results of which were released last Friday — but are calling for more people to get involved.

All involved in the Tralee Tidy Towns effort were delighted to retain the gold medal for the town in the recent Tidy Towns Ireland results announcement, making it eleven gold medal wins in a row.

However, they never expected the huge hike in points, the biggest ever increase in points in one year in the history of Tralee Tidy Towns – an impressive nineteen points in total.

But that success and any improvement is dependent on an even greater effort in the coming year and the public is invited to get in touch and join them in cleaning up the town.

“Tralee Tidy Towns has some excellent momentum now and we are working towards our next submission already – we invite all those who have an interest in working together to enhance our beautiful town to drop us a line on tidytownstralee@gmail.com,” said Chairman of Tralee Tidy Towns, Brendan O’Brien.

“The huge increase in the points achieved by this year’s application is testament to the work going on on the ground. We have an excellent steering group with a growing number of volunteers all working in sub teams such as biodiversity, green spaces and landscaping or litter control depending on their interests.

“We are also being very well supported by Kerry County Council Tralee MD, Tralee Chamber Alliance, our excellent CE Scheme Friends of Able, MTU, our local schools, businesses, media outlets, state agencies and the Department of Rural and Community Development; and we’re working together with a growing number of community organisations such as Transition Kerry, Irish Wildlife Trust Kerry and Crainn Chiarrai.”

“We are delighted that the work of all of these stakeholders is recognised by this excellent result and also flagged by the adjudicator who praised the  ‘excellent working relationships’,” concluded Brendan O’Brien.
