A TRALEE woman who worked on the design of a library in Dun Laoghaire has seen the project win two major awards last week.

Louise Cotter, originally from St Brendan’s Park, of architects Carr, Cotter & Naessens Ltd, worked on the dlr LexIcon which received the Selwyn Goldsmith Award for International Design and the National Panel Special Award at the 2016 Civic Trust Awards in London on March 4.

The Civic Trust Awards are the longest standing built environment awards scheme in Europe, first established in 1959. The two awards were presented to the dlr LexIcon, designed by architects Carr, Cotter & Naessens Ltd, because it has demonstrated outstanding credentials in the area of universal design.

Louise Cotter has designed a number of projects in Kerry including the Solas Building for ITT, Ballyroe Heights Hotel and a number of houses in West Kerry and Killarney.

The dlr LexIcon building already scooped two national awards at the ‘Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland Awards’ (RIAI) last year and more at the ‘2015 Schueco Excellence Awards’ where it took home the ‘Overall Excellence Award’ and the ‘Sustainability Award’.
