Debbie Sugrue was crowned ‘Miss Bikini South America/New Zealand’ at the end of March.
A LOCAL woman was recently named as the winner of a modelling competition that was held in Auckland, New Zealand last month.
Debbie Sugrue who is originally from Fountain Court was named as the winner of the ‘Miss Bikini South America/New Zealand’ competition and will now go on to complete the the world finals that that will be taking place later in the year.
Debbie was a student of Mercy Mounthawk school before moving down-under to Australia in 2011. She is the daughter of Noreen and Patrick Sugrue from Fountain Court and also has one younger sister in Maria.
The 22-year old has also set up her own make-up business in ‘Barbelle Beauty By Debbie’.
TraleeToday.ie got in contact with Debbie to ask her about the competition.

“I was first approached by a few agencies in Sydney and New Zealand and even ‘Miss Universe’ but other commitments clashed with it. To begin with, I did some paid commercial work and really liked it,” said Debbie.
“It isn’t all about modelling for me. It’s about sharing my love and passion for fitness through images that are aimed to inspire and empower women,” she continued.
So, what’s next for Debbie after this prestigious win?
“I compete in the ‘New Zealand International Federation Of Bodybuilding’ (NZIFB) show this Saturday, April 18 which is entirely different. After that I have heaps of shoots and TV work/ I am featured in a movie, interviewed by E-news NZ and much more is yet to come. I have another show on May 10. July is fitness model of the year and September is the Grand finals,” she continued.
“This is huge for my business as I am about to graduate as a nutritionist and work full time on my business. My passion belongs to helping others live a healthy lifestyle, as I believe it’s best to work on what brings you and others your helping happiness and fulfilment everyday,” she said.
