MARTIN O’Neill could be keeping a close eye on John Egan following his incredible home league debut at his new club Brentford at the weekend.

The centre-half bagged himself a brace of goals in the 2-0 win over Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town in Griffin Park on Saturday.

In July, the son of Kerry legend John Egan earned himself a promotion from League 1 to the second tier of English football when he signed a 3-year-deal at Brentford who have been a club on the up in recent years.

In his two seasons at Gillingham he hit the net on 11 occasions.

John made six appearances for the Republic Of Ireland Under 21 side. A good season in the championship could see the Kerry GAA supporter – despite his Cork upbringing – knocking on the door of the senior side.

He has certainly put himself on Martin O’Neill’s radar after those decisive two goals against Ipswich.

In the video below, Egan’s goals come on the 1:00 and 1:40 mark.
