A YOUNG boy has teamed up with the Rose of Tralee Class of 2016 to launch a major fundraising campaign for Crumlin Children’s Hospital, where he was treated for cancer.

The charity single It’s Time was officially launched by five and a half year old James McGowan on Thursday at SAM’s Bar on Dublin’s Dawson Street, in the company of Roses of Tralee Maria Walsh and Elysha Brennan, Roses, Rose Escorts and James’s family and friends from around the country.

#ItsTime4Crumlin is a charity single recorded by 50 Roses and Rose Escorts from the 2016 Rose of Tralee International Festival, including Rose of Tralee Maggie McEldowney, with all proceeds from its sale going to CMRF, Crumlin.

2016 Rose of Tralee, Maggie McEldowney was unable to attend due to work commitments but she sent a video message of congratulations to everyone involved in the production of the song.

James’s cousin, John Slowey, the 2016 Rose of Tralee Escort of the Year who led the campaign, said: “I was inspired by James’s journey from cancer diagnosis through to treatment in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. In February 2016 James underwent surgery under the care of Mr Gary O’Toole, to have his shoulder blade removed, having commenced a ten month course of chemotherapy in September 2015 to treat an aggressive “Ewings” sarcoma. By September 2016 James’s CT and MRI showed no sign of sarcoma. His treatment was overseen by Consultant Oncologist Cormac Owens. He’s now enjoying junior infants in Scoil Bhríde and looking forward to being an honorary Rose Escort at this year’s Rose of Tralee Festival in August.”

It’s Time, originally a hit for Imagine Dragons, is on sale for only €0.99 from iTunes and Apple Music, 24-7, Amazon MP3, eMusic, Groove, KKBOX, Spotify, VerveLife, 7digital, Google Play, MediaNet and TIDAL. Listen to the song here It’s Time. Watch the video below…
