ROCK STREET POST OFFICE CLUB LOTTO COMPETITION
The Club is currently competing with other clubs for the sole rights to sell our Club Lotto tickets in Rock Street Post Office from April 2020. To help us win this competition, all you have to do is mention your support for Kerins O’Rahillys when you make any financial transaction in Rock Street Post Office and you will collect points for the club.
The points are collected by stamping a card that you can keep yourself or else leave in the Post Office if that’s handier for you. When the card is full, you can give it to Paula O’Sullivan of our Management Committee or else hand it into Rock Street Post Office – and then start a new card!
The number of points awarded depends on the type of transaction you make. For example, if you open a new deposit account, you will earn five points for Kerins O’Rahillys and if you buy a booklet of 10 stamps, you will earn the club two points. We are asking all club members and supporters to get behind us in our efforts to win the competition. So if you’re buying stamps for Christmas, think Rock street Post Office and then think Kerins O’Rahillys when you’re in there! All support welcome.
CHURCH GATE COLLECTION
The club Chairman, Haulie Kerins, wishes to express his thanks to all those who helped out with the recent church gate collection, especially those who covered more than one, or multiple masses. This enabled us to cover off all parish masses.
SPORTS CAPITAL GRANT
The club recently received confirmation of a grant of €24,481 under the Sports Capital Grant Programme which will enable us to commence fencing, floodlighting and exercise track works at our Strand Road pitch.
This is most welcome and the Kerins O’Rahillys club wish to thank Minister Brendan Griffin and his officials at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, along with local public representatives for their assistance.

Munster Semi Final Na Gaeil played Michael Cusack’s of Clare in the Premier Junior Munster Semi Final in Austin Stack Park on Saturday in what turned out to be a stroll in the park for the Tralee side.
It took all of five minutes for Na Gaeil to settle in but once they did the scores came thick and fast. Jack Barry fisted over in the sixth minute which was quickly followed up with two points from Diarmaid Herlihy.
Dara Devine pointed two frees and Diarmaid Herlihy scored his 3rd from play in the twelfth minute to put Na Gaeil five ahead. Dara Devine pointed from a placed ball once more before Diarmuid O’Connor split the uprights. It was all one way traffic with Na Gaeil on top in every position and the Clare side were finding it difficult to get to the pace of the game.
Andrew Barry scored a peach of a point on twenty eight minutes. Then after good interplay between Jack Barry and Dan Goggin Diarmuid O’Connor burst through the Michael Cusack’s rearguard to blast the ball past net minder Eoin Farrell.
A minute later Jack Barry passed to Diarmaid Herlihy. He drove in along the end line and sent the ball across to Jamie Lowham who finished it to the net for Na Gaeil’s 2nd goal. Half time score Na Gaeil: 2-08; Michael Cusack’s: 0-00.
Na Gaeil were first out of the blocks after half time with Diarmaid Herlihy and Diarmaid O’Connor firing over from the first two attacks.
Michael Cusack’s registered their first score in the 38th minute when Hugh Kelly pointed from play which was cancelled out by another Dara Devine pointed free. After 40 minutes Na Gaeil management ran their bench. James O’Connor scored a point after being introduced quickly followed by a well worked Darragh Reen point.
The next six points came from the trusty boot of expert place kicker Dara Devine, four from frees and two from play. The hard working Dan Goggin goaled from close range in the 60th minute followed by a pointed free from Michael Cusack’s Domhnall McMahon. Kieran Donovan pointed the last free of the game on 64 minutes.
Final Score: Na Gaeil: 3-20; Michael Cusack’s: 0-02. A rather facile victory for Na Gaeil with their midfield and defence controlling matters from start to finish and ensuring a plentiful supply of ball to the forwards. They will face a much sterner test in Mallow on December 8th when they take on Mullinahone of Tipperary in the Munster Final.
Team: Timmy Culloty, Ryan O’Neill, Kieran Dineen, Damien Bourke, Fergal Barry, Andrew Barry(0-01), Eoin Doody, Diarmuid O’Connor(1-02), Jack Barry(0-01), Dan O’Connor, Eoin O’Neill, Dan Goggin(1-0), Diarmaid Herlihy(0-04), Jamie Lowham(1-0), Dara Devine(0-9). Subs: Darragh Reen(0-01) for Jack Barry; Eoin Walsh for Dan O’Connor; James O’Connor(0-01) for Diarmuid O’Connor; Tadhg Lynch for Diarmaid Herlihy; Shane Fitzgerald for Ryan O’Neill; Kieran Donovan(0-01) for Fergal Barry.

Good Luck Tralee Schools Senior Hurlers:
Good luck to the 3 Tralee Schools who are seeking to have 3 out of 4 semi-final places in the last 4 of the Munster GAA Post Primary Schools E competition.
There are Tralee Parnells minors and under 16s playing across all 3 panels and we as a club wish them all the Best of Luck.
The Munster Under 19 E Hurling Cup Competition began in the 2017/2018 season and has been hugely beneficial for the ongoing development and progress of hurling in Tralee town and the surrounding areas where these players are drawn from.
The 2018 final saw an unprecedented lineup of 2 Tralee schools playing a Munster Final as a local derby, with Mercy Mounthawk facing off last year against CBS The Green. CBS went on to win in 2018 while the 2o17 winners were Mount Sion of Waterford. Both of these past winners are again involved in the 2019 later stages.
The next scheduled fixtures are:-
Mon 25th Nov 19 at 12:00, Gaelcholaiste Chiarrai V Mount Sion CBS Post Primary.
Fri 29th Nov 19 at 12:30, Mercy Mounthawk V Waterpark College Waterford.
Wed 4th Dec 19 at 12:30, Coláiste Mhuire Cobh V Tralee CBS.Exciting times indeed, for Senior Schools Hurling in Tralee.
Club Social Night 7th Dec:
Time for the senior Hurlers and Camogie players, Club Managers, Coaches and Parents to let their hair down and enjoy a night out on the 7th of December in a mystery location. A 50 seater bus has been booked so reserve your place on the link on Parnells social media. €10 to confirm your place must be dropped to Ronan Gilsenan (Tech Co located just off the square in Tralee) and write your name on the envelope.
Bus leaves Tralee at 7.30pm and returns at 1am.
Strength and Conditioning Strong Start:
We saw great numbers and enthusiasm as we started into our 2019 winter Strength and Conditioning Programme. We welcomed players (including new adults, and juveniles born 2006 or earlier), coaches and parents, in partnership with Coach Diarmuid Brennan, Mondays and Fridays, beginning November 18 and 22, Sports Hall @ CBS The Green. Judging by some of the online feedback in some of the social channels, those on the senior side of 40 found it a bit more difficult to cope with the muscles that did not want to climb stairs or take on to much strenuous challenges in the days after session 1. But we are assured that it gets easier each week and will all be worth it, after completing the full programme.
Milltown/Castlemaine seniors, sponsored by Larkins Bar and Restaurant and Kelly’s Londis Top Shop, will take on Laune Rangers in the Mid Kerry Senior Championship Final. The game will take place on Sunday next, December 1st, at 2pm in Glenbeigh. We would really appreciate if all in our community would make a special effort to come along and support the management team and panel on Sunday. Don’t forget to wear your club colours too!
Medal Presentation:
We were very privileged to have Na Gaeil and Kerry Senior player Diarmuid O’ Connor as our special guest at our Coiste Na nÓg medal presentation ceremony in Milltown on Sunday November 27th.
Philip O’ Reilly, Coiste Na nÓg chairman opened the proceedings- welcoming all the players and parents. He paid special thanks to the Coiste Na nÓg committee and the fantastic bunch of coaches and mentors. He also complimented all the parents for their support not to mention their culinary and organisational skills!
Kerry senior player, Diarmuid O’ Connor then addressed all the young players and their parents, with particular mention to the U-14 players who competed in Féile this year. He encouraged all the players present to keep up with their training sessions and to listen to their mentors and coaches. Diarmuid reminisced on the many happy days he had as a young boy kicking a ball around our very own Paddy Burke Memorial Pitch in Milltown. And with practice ‘maybe someday you too will get a chance to play with Kerry’, said Diarmuid.
The young footballers listened intently and respectfully to Diarmuid’s words of encouragement and wisdom. We wish Diarmuid all the best in his up-coming club championship game and also with his Kerry senior career.
After all the medals had been presented and numerous clicks of the camera, our club chairman, Podge Leane, addressed the large gathering- paying particular thanks to our coaching officer Ian Twiss. Ian has done trojan work over the past years, recruiting and up skilling coaches and mentors- thus enabling them to deliver very creative, diverse and enjoyable coaching sessions to our underage players.
Before close of business,Liam Doherty was presented with the prestigious Coiste Na nÓg ‘Club Person of the Year’, for his wonderful commitment to the underage structure in Milltown Castlemaine GAA Club. In his address, Podge also acknowledged the tremendous support of Liam’s wife Suzy. As the old saying goes-‘Behind every good man is a great lady’!! Well done to you both!

GARDAI are investigating burglaries and a suspected pickpocketing incident in Tralee over the past week.
On Monday, November 18, a woman entered Penneys on The Mall at about 11.20am and her phone was in the side pocket of her handbag.
She suspected that a female was following her, but when she left the store he phone was missing. Gardaí say pickpocketing is not common in Tralee and they are asking the public if they saw anything suspicious in Penneys or on The Mall that day to contact them.

Between Tuesday, November 19 at 6pm and 9am on Wednesday, November 20, tools were stolen from a house under renovation by Council workers at Shanakill estate.
Meanwhile, during the same time period, a burglary occurred in a construction site in Clash and a number of tools were taken. Gardaí do not believe the thefts are related.
They are asking if anyone saw anything suspicious at both locations during these timeframes or have been offered tools for sale, to contact them.
Also, a burglary occurred in Powers Centra in Abbeydorney, at around 1.30am this morning, Monday, November 25. Four males entered via the rear door of premises and a small quantity of cash and cigarettes were stolen.

HE has been in the scouts almost all his life and on Saturday, a Tralee man was honoured for his service to the organisation.
Jimmy O’Donnell from Cahills Park went down to the Scout Hall off Matt Talbot Road, on the pretence of an investiture ceremony for a scout.
However, when Jimmy entered the hall and was faced with a scouts guard of honour, it became apparent it was all a ruse for a celebration to mark his 40 years as an adult scout leader.
Continued below…
As well as members of the current 1st Kerry Scouts Unit, many friends and former scouts who had Jimmy as their leader, were present to wish him well. The County Commissioner, Anne Daly, presented Jimmy with a special pin to mark the milestone.
Jimmy said the occasion was unexpected and a nice surprise. “When I walked in I said ‘well there’s something else going on here!’ I suppose I spent years organising events like this for other people, but obviously someone else did it this time!”
Jimmy, who is originally from Strand Road, said he started in scouting at the age of eight. “When I started first, the scouts met in Ballymullen Barracks, then we moved up to Balloonagh in St Joseph’s school building and we were in other halls on a temporary business before our current home here.”
“Other people are into football and sport but scouting is my thing,” said Jimmy, who served as county commissioner for a period and was also involved in committees at national level.
Scouting was also responsible for Jimmy meeting his wife, Maura, who was a leader with Listowel scouts and romance flourished.
Maura and Jimmy’s four children are all scouts, with daughter Aisling receiving a pin for 10 years as a scout leader on Saturday. Ryan has turned 18 and is now a leader, Sean is 15 and a venturer, while 12 year-old Grainne has just moved into the scouts from being a cub.
So in the future it looks like there will be many more ceremonies like this for the O’Donnell family. Scroll down for photos…
THEY gathered from all over the county in The Meadowlands Hotel on Sunday afternoon for the Irish Wheelchair Association Kerry Christmas Party.
Around 105 guests attended a Mass celebrated by Fr Padraig Walsh before enjoying a four course meal followed by some music from Tom O’Brien.
“We do this every year and the three branches from Killarney, Listowel and Tralee get together and socialise” said Pat Mahony of the association. Scroll down for photos…

Their aim is to build a standalone Chemotherapy Unit within the grounds of University Hospital Kerry which will cost in the region of €5 million.
“This unit will provide must needed Chemotherapy services for the people of Kerry locally which negates the need for them to travel outside of the county and help ease the stress that the cohort of patients are already under,” said Mary.
“It is initiatives like this that bring communities together and this is a fantastic way of highlighting to the younger generation that working together is powerful when trying to achieve a common goal,” she added. To reserve a table for the night, please contact the school on 0667122552.
