Division 1 County League Result
Beaufort 1-11.

Kerins O’Rahillys.  0-18

The senior squad continued is winning run with a well deserved victory away to Beaufort in the final round of the Division 1 County League.
The win assured us top stop in our group and a place in next weeks final against Dingle.
We started the brighter and raced into a two point lead with points from Conor Hayes and Shane McElligott. Beaufort respond with two to level shortly after.
We had the majority of possession at this stage and that dominance was rewarded with points from centre half back Cormac Coffey and Conor Hayes .
We then conceded a penalty and were fortunate when the resultant spot kick crashed back off the crossbar and was cleared to safety.
This left us ahead four points to two at the water break.
Our dominance continued at the restart with two rapid points. One from the lively Barry John Keane and a second from the impressive Cormac Coffey , who’s driving runs were causing all sorts of problems for the home team.
Beaufort then launched a rare attack and found themselves with a great goal scoring opportunity, but Shane Foley in goal advance swiftly from his line to smother the shot.
We were then dealt a blow when we lost influential Karl Mullins through injury.
His replacement Tom Hoare was straight into the action and fisted a good score coming in along the end line. Beaufort added to their tally , but we finished the half stronger with a free from Jack Savage and a point from Barry John Keane to leave the half time score nine points to five in our favour.
Beaufort got the opening score of the second half, this was quickly cancelled out with a point from Cormac Coffey. We stretched our lead with a Jack Savage free and a Conor Hayes point before Cormac Coffey again raised a white flag with his fourth of the afternoon to put us seven points ahead.
Beaufort then had a period of dominance , winning a lot of primary possession and this was rewarded with a goal in the thirteenth minute .  We responded well and kicked the next two scores from Jack Savage, one from a free just before the water break.
The introduction of Gavin O Brien at midfield for the injured Shane Brosnan helped us regained our dominance around the middle , where he won a number of kick outs when the home side were beginning to cut into our lead.
Barry John Keane kicked another point with five minutes remaining to stretch our lead back to four.
A fine piece of fielding and a driving run from the aforementioned O’Brien, who offloaded to Conor Hayes to slot over nicely from close range was to be the final score of the game.
The defence was again solid despite the absence through injury of team captain, full back Ross O Callaghan . Donagh Buckley and Patrick Begley continued their good form , Cian Sayers gained a lot of possession and linked up well with our forward division. Cormac Coffey was outstanding at centre back , scoring four super points and drove us on at every opportunity. Both Karl Mullins and Shane Brosnan at midfield worked tirelessly until injury ended their participation. Up front Barry John Keane lead to attack well and inside Conor Hayes and Jack Savage were huge threats all afternoon.
Tom Hoare and Gavin O’Brien’s return ,following his recent injury, was a welcome boost as their size and physical presence was vital around the midfield sector.
The introduction of Danial Bowler, Adam Lacey and debutant Conor O’Sullivan was another bonus as game time for these young players at this level is invaluable.
Management and players can now look forward to a League Final next weekend , and hopefully the injuries we have can clear up in time for us to have a full compliment available for the fixture.

Division 5 County League Result
Cromane 3-18.   KOR 1-11

Minor Central Region Semi Final Result.
Ardfert.  2-17       Kerins O Rahillys 0-11
Last Monday evening saw us exit the competition having fought bravely against Ardfert. As has been the case for much of this season , we again lined out short of a number of regulars , injuries and inter county involvement have seriously hampered our development. Lining out with so many under 15’s was always going to be a challenge, however all the players who were involved were not found wanting for effort .
We should be stronger and more competitive in the coming weeks when we see the return of a number of key players from Kerry Minor commitments and injury.
Players will be informed of training schedule.

Na Gaeil GAA Club News

.

Seniors    Na Gaeil played Castleisland Desmonds in Killeen in Round 5 of the County League on Friday evening. Playing with the aid of the breeze Desmonds were out of the traps first and dominated the early exchanges, scoring the first two points through Adam O’Donoghue and Graham O’Connor. But the tide turned five minutes in when goal bound Jack Bourke was up ended in the large parallelogram and a penalty was awarded to Na Gaeil, which Darragh Carmody duly dispatched to the Desmonds net. Na Gaeil now took a stranglehold on proceedings with the in-form Darragh Reen getting the next score followed by points from Darragh Carmody and Tadhg Reen. Desmonds pulled one back with a well taken point from their corner forward Graham O’Connor to leave Na Gaeil a goal ahead the water break on a scoreline of 1-03 to 0-03. Desmonds started the 2ndquarter brightly with a point from Adam O’Donoghue and a pointed 45 form their goalkeeper Stephen Bartlett. Influential Na Gaeil midfielder Andrew Barry had to retire injured at this stage which was a blow to the home side. Na Gaeil’s Darragh Carmody and Desmonds’ Tom Lynch exchanged points before the lively Jack Bourke had the final say firing over a lovely point for the home side on the stroke of half time to leave Na Gaeil ahead by two. Na Gaeil: 1-05; Desmonds: 0-06.

Darragh Carmody got the first score of the 2nd half pointing a 30m free three minutes in for a foul on Darragh Reen, but Desmonds responded with a point from Adam O’Donoghue. Due to Desmonds indiscipline in defence Na Gaeil were awarded another close in free which Darragh Carmody duly pointed. Tadhg Reen fired over his second point of the evening on 7 minutes. Na Gaeil were now four ahead and looking comfortable. But Desmonds won the next Na Gaeil kick out and worked the ball down the left wing. Adam O’Donoghue sent a peach of a pass across the square to the unmarked Tomás Lynch and he blasted the ball to the Na Gaeil net giving Devon Burns no chance. Darragh Reen, who was tormenting the Desmonds defence with his scintillating runs through the middle, scored the next point to leave the sides all square at 1-09apiece at the second water break.  On the resumption Desmonds won the ball around the middle.  It was off loaded to Luca Brosnan, who made a surging run through the Na Gaeil defence and blasted the ball to the back of the net to put them a goal ahead with twelve minutes left to play. At this stage Na Gaeil management decided to run their bench giving many young players their first taste of senior football. They did not disappoint and Na Gaeil powered back into the game.  Darragh Carmody pointed from play to leave two between them. The defining score of the half came with six minutes of normal time left. Jack Bourke for Na Gaeil won a good ball in the corner. He slipped his marker and sent a precision pass across the square, setting it up for the in rushing Kieran O’Donovan to palm the ball to the Desmonds net. Tomás Lynch pulled one back for Desmonds on 27 minutes to level matters once again. Desmonds created many scoring opportunities in the final minutes but surprisingly went for goals when they could have taken their points. The Na Gaeil defence stoutly defended their attempts at goal and at the other end they were much more clinical. They scored three points in quick succession through Ger O’Connor, man of the match Darragh Reen and a pointed 45 from goalkeeper Devon Burns. Final score: Na Gaeil: 2-12; Desmonds: 2-09.  Na Gaeil defence played brilliantly on the night with Enda O’Connor and Ruairí O’Sullivan excellent in the half back line. Dan O’ Connor was a power-house at midfield while the Reen brothers Fergal Barry were bang in form in the half forward line. Jamie Lowham put in a sterling performance on his return at full forward where he was flanked by the hard working Jack Bourke and Darragh Carmody. All the subs introduced played well with Ger O’Connor in particular very impressive.

Na Gaeil: Devon Burns(0-01), Dara Sheehy, Luke Barrett, Damien Bourke, Kieran O’Donovan, Enda O’Connor, Ruairi O’Sullivan, Dan O’Connor, Andrew Barry, Fergal Barry, Darragh Reen(0-02), Tadhg Reen(0-02), Jack Bourke(0-01), Jamie Lowham, Darragh Carmody(1-05), Subs: Ger O’Connor(0-01) for Andrew Barry; Jimmí O Súilleabháin for Dan O’Connor; Liam Óg Kingston for Dara Sheehy; Seamus Looney for Jamie Lowham; Adrian Quirke for Jack Bourke.

UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

Last Sunday John Mitchel’s under 7s welcomed Churchill to our Ballyseedy complex for go games.  5 teams from each club under 7s took to the pitch and some great football was on display and no little fun was had by both sides.

Thanks to all parents for making the effort and there really was a lovely atmosphere surrounding the event.  Many thanks to Churchill for travelling in and we will welcome seeing them again soon.

U8/U10 GIRLS

Following our first game of the season against St Pats of Blennerville last weekend, we were delighted to welcome Kerins O’Rahillys u8s and u10 girls to Ballyseedy on Sunday morning for more competitive games.

The weather conditions were terrific for the games, and both teams were very competitive, working hard and showing well for their teammates. This meant that there were some excellent scores and the excitement among the players and the spectators were high.

In the u8 game, there was special praise for Nicole, Brooke and Aeibhin, who were to the fore, assisted ably by Siun, Lucy, Ava, and Roisin.

Over on the u-10 team, Ava, Caoimhe, Maddison and Emma stood out, with back-up from Sophie, who grabbed 1-1, Ally who kicked a lovely point, and Aine, Roisin and Millie. It was definitely a step up from the last weekend and the games are really bringing the girls forward, as they work on their teamwork and concentration during the games.

UNDER 13 BOYS

With Rathmore only fielding one team, our Gold team had a by this evening. Our Green team were facing opponents who were a little bit of an unknown quantity, having come up in divisions. Playing against the wind in the first half, the Greens had plenty of possession but were finding it hard to score against a strong wind and an inspired Rathmore keeper who was proving very hard to pass. Half time saw us 3 points up but it could have been more, our own mistakes resulting in scores for the East Kerry lads.

The 2nd half saw the Greens tagging on a well worked goal and some well taken points, but Rathmore doggedly stayed with us, with a well taken goal. 7 points up at the water break, the greens pulled away nicely in the final quarter to run out deserved winners. A feature of tonight’s game was the part played by all four substitutes who came in and were an important part of a great win.

Juvenile Academy

U5’s: A great crowd of girls and boys enjoyed the cooler weather this week and really put in excellent effort. Kicking, agility and pick up skill stations followed fun warmups and fun games to finish.

Kiera O’Shea showed super determination and intensity to win player of the week.

U7’s: A great turn out for training this morning ahead of our go games next week.
We played plenty of football and went through skills needed for games.
A big thanks to Paudi, John, Fizzy, Noel, Martina and Dave
Players of the week were Ailise and Ben.

U8 Girls: Kieran and Labhraidh ran a high energy session with plenty of enthusiasm after the recent match last weekend. The girls worked on kick passing in drills & small-sided games. Keep up the practice for more matches to come girls. We will play John Mitchells at home for under 8 and under 10 on Saturday 14th August. The trophy will be back for player of the week next Sunday at training.

U9’s: We had a good season this morning, the boys have clearly been practicing because their skills are improving hugely, and we practiced our soloing, kicking and one-on-one attacking/defending also which was very competitive. The game was a cracker with the yellows drawing level with the final kick of the game by the excellent Darragh Flahive. Darragh Sheehan, Tiarnán Scanlan and player of the week Jace Flynn who scored some great goals. Keep it up lads.

U10 Girls: Fiona took the girls for a skills training session with 10 girls working on solos & kick passing. This included games of solo tag, kick passing games and attack & defence drills. There was lots of running and positional awareness in the match with Alannah O’Mahony showing her practice paying off & Saorlaith Costello really improving in kicking confidence. The player of the week with great effort and enthusiasm throughout all our sessions and matches was Ailbhe Hennessy! Very well done & keep up the practice!!

U11’s: Our u11 side had a break from the Go games last week as our match against Tarbert was postponed. The focus this week was on preparing for our upcoming game against Asdee-Ballylongford. We had a training session on Friday evening and Sunday morning, it was a bit cooler than the week earlier so we were able to get our players working hard!

We started both sessions with some drills to work on accurate punt kicking and technique for the over-head catch. We followed these with a practice game where only hand-passing was allowed. We want our players to work on their hand pass accuracy and improve the speed they move the ball in play.

We finished the session with a full game and we could see the players are getting better at finding players in space and passing to a team-mate that is in a better position to score. Rylan, James, Charlie and Paddy impressed the coaches with their work rate and courage on the ball.  Keep up the practice at home, especially the solo and high catch.

The Go games resume this Thursday evening away to Asdee-Ballylingford. Training will resume on Sunday at 12 noon at St Pat’s club grounds in Blennerville V92 RH98. A reminder to parents that all players are to have a gum shield and to wear it at matches and training and to register on www.foireann.ie

U12 Girls: We had 8 under 12s girls this morning on a beautiful morning in St Pats

We did a few fun drills with the girls first, solo-crazy solo, hook kick-bulls eye & side to side charge -charge and lift, we added a number to each girl on either team to make it harder to Concentrate, we also ask each team mate to lie flat on da ground before been called to go ..we ended with a fun match with only hand passing before scoring for the first 10 mins..

I can see each girl in our group enjoying every session we have and I must say these girls are improving with skill each week and impressing us as coaches every week

Congratulations to Katelyn on winning player of the week for this group & impressing us coaches again and welcome to Aoife today to our group, keep up the practice at home girls.

U13’s: St Pats 4 -08 v 1 -07 Asdee/Ballydonoghue/Ballylongford/Clounmacon

Well done and a fantastic performance of courage, teamwork and superb skill from everyone. Ben O’Leary played a captain’s part and an opportunistic scoring blitz from razor sharp Jamie Bowler got us over the line. Special mention to Tommy & Hugh Costello, Stephen Enright & James Daly from the U 11 squad who stepped up and showed the way with intelligent play.

Jack Costello, Gary Scollard, Darragh Murphy, Luke Passway worked hard throughout the game and linked superbly with the pace and footwork of Conor Keane, Jack Flahive, Conor Sheehan and Fionn Carmody.

We are fortunate to have a goalkeeper with fantastic hands like Ródhan Culloo who has excellent vision on kick outs. Speedy recovery to the lion-hearted Jack Cashman who sustained an ankle injury v early in the game. The scores were level at the 2nd water-break but our stars made up their minds that we were going to win and they did it in style and gained a well-deserved victory. We look forward to having all players back from injury & holidays for our next game.

Thanks to Fitzgibbon interiors who have sponsored our beautiful new jerseys that we wore for the first time.

U15’s: We trained last Wednesday evening as well as Sunday afternoon in preparation for our next competition which is the U15 Kellihers Garage Central Region competition, but attendances were low for both sessions. It is important that players turn up for training to improve their skills.

The Central Region U15 competition starting this Wednesday, 4 August. We are grouped in Division 4 along with Annacaul/Lispole, Dingle, Ballymacelligott B and Austin Stacks B. Our first match will be at home to Austin Stacks B on Wednesday, 4 August at 7pm. Best of luck to all involved.

U16 Girls: Training continues twice weekly.

Minors

Our U17’s couldn’t play Laune Rangers in the last round of the Central Region U17 Competition at home last Thursday due to insufficient numbers.

Seniors

Division 3A, County Senior Football League Round 5

St Pats 0-05 Glenflesk 1-13

We ended our league campaign for the year with a loss to Glenflesk last Thursday evening in Blennerville.

Playing with an understrength team and under dry but slippery conditions, we never got to grips with the pace of the game and it took a minute for Dara Roche to get his team on the score sheet converting a free which was followed by another point from Killian O’Sullivan after receiving a cross-field pass from Danny Lucey, who was responsible for their next 2 points.

At this stage, Glenflesk had total control of all areas of the pitch, winning our kickouts despite playing a robust brand of football which we had no ideas to counter. The only goal of the match came after 11 minutes when Alan Murphy intercepted a St Pats ball and carried the ball unchallenged for about 40m through our defence to shoot past Paudie Bailey. Time and again, we were getting turned over as the away side defended and attacked in droves. Dara Roche converted a free late in the half to leave the half-time scores at 0-0 to 1-7.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first in terms of scorers with Dara Roche converting a free and Killian O’Sullivan further stretching their lead to 12 points. Captain Gary Savage put us on the score board after 20 minutes, pointing from close range and Eoin Greaney converted a free a minute later and added another just after the second water-break. Shane Jordan scored the point of the match when he dummy soloed and pointed with the inside of his boot to register our fourth straight point. Fergal O’Brien also converted a free late on, but Glenflesk’s Emmett Finan pointed a minute later as they ran away comfortable winners.

The defeat did not harm our position on the league table, nor Glenflesk’s as both teams had already secured Division 3 status for next year.

Wishing Paul McMahon who went off during the game, a speedy recovery.

St Pats: Paudi Bailey, Paudie O’Connor, Conor Moore, Niall McCarthy, Tommy Lynch, Luke Mulligan, Cillian O’Riordan, Liam O’Sullivan, Shane Jordan (0-1), Tommy Nicolson, Eoin Greaney (0-2,1f), Cormac Lynch, Gary Savage (0-1), Paul McMahon, Fergal O’Brien (0-1, 1f)

Subs Used: Brian Murphy, Brendan Poff, Breandain Savage, Joe O’Connor, Martin Savage, Ali Gardezi and Darragh Moriarty.

Kerry Minors

Hard luck to James Costello, Johnny Enright and the Kerry minor team who narrowly lost to Cork in the semi-finals of the 2021 Electric Ireland Munster Football Minor Championship.

The club would like to extend its sympathy to the families and friends of Eileen Bailey née Fealy Ashgrove, Ballyvelly and formerly of Lohercannon.

Coiste na nÓg:

Sponsored by Foleys Spar, Milltown

This Week in the Coiste na nÓg:

A quieter week than normal for our juvenile teams started off on Wednesday evening with our U9 Boys taking a trip to Glenflesk GAA. There were some fantastic skills on show in the Barraduff pitch on the night and some great team spirit too.

Our U13 White Team were back in league action on Saturday night against Ardfert and produced a fantastic display racing into a 1-11 to 0-04 lead at half-time before adding to this further with a great second half performance led to a 3-18 to 1-06 win in this County League Phase 2 game in Division 9C.

Our U10 Girls were in action Sunday morning and played some fantastic football against Keel/Listry. The girls who the day before were winning athletics medals on the same field were now flying up it with ball in hand and doing so in some style. Another great morning of teamwork, skill and the girls are getting better with every game.

Sunday evening was the turn of our U13 Green Team and they did not disappoint in terms of entertainment value for the spectators in attendance. The game didn’t start the way our U13s would have liked and at halftime they trailed by 10 at halftime the score 0-06 to 4-04. The second half however saw our U13 produce an amazing comeback and a 18 point turnaround to win the game 5-11 to 4-06. Incredible scoring from the forwards and huge credit also to the defensive players and goalkeeper  keeping the opposition to two scores in the second half. Team manager Mike Quirke said the boys showed great heart to turn the game around.

Field Development Project:

A sincere thank you to the many volunteers that helped on Saturday morning as the Brand New Stand and adjacent standing areas began to take shape. Very exciting times ahead as we look forward to cheering on all of our clubs teams from there.

We would like to also thank both Denis O’Riordan and Damien Griffin of FRC Concrete for the amazing job they have done on the stand.

Senior Round Up:

Senior: After a big win last time out against Brosna to set up a deciding round 5 in division 3B, it was back to Paddy Burke Memorial Park yesterday to face Duagh with a promotion still a prospect. On the day an outstanding performance from our senior team set up a promotion decider with Churchill next Sunday as they ran out 8-15 to 0-06 winners.

Junior: Our Senior B side travelled to the Beara Peninsula this week and unfortunately it wasn’t to be on the night. The home side won by a score of 4-15 to 2-09 and saw them go on to contest the Div 6 final. Our Senior B team have performed fantastically in this year’s County League, well done to both them and the coaching team. Plenty more matches ahead for the team starting with a Mid Kerry League Play Off against Beaufort on Tuesday evening next.

Minor: Our Minor side are out again this Monday afternoon to face Ballymac in the Central Region: Division 2 Final. Our minor side has performed brilliantly so far this year drawing just once with Kenmare and claiming wins in every other outing. We wish them all the very best Monday afternoon for their final from all at the club.

U7 Boys and Girls
Another great turnout for under 7’s training last Friday with fierce enthusiasm by all. A fantastic training session all round. Congratulations to our newest players of the week: Eanna Griffin and Aoife O’Gorman.

U8 Girls

Under 8

Well done to our U8s girls who togged out for an away match against Kilmoyley at the weekend.  Super skills on display all round and the management were very proud of the fantastic effort by all the girls. Go Parnells!

U10 Girls
Our U10 squad lined out against Cillard on Saturday.  A brilliant effort by all the girls and a great morning of camogie.  Well done girls.

U11 Boys

U11

Our younger U11 boys put in a great performance on Saturday against Lixnaw. The improvement in basic skills: picking and striking was noticeable. The team effort was outstanding.  A special mention to our team captain Cody Deady who proved his skills at both ends of the pitch. Onwards and upward.

U12 Girls

Under 12

The U12 Blue Camogie team had a comprehensive win over Causeway in round 3 of the Division 1 County League on Wednesday evening.  There was a great workrate on display all around the field with Parnells in control from the early stages. It’s great to see the hard work put in at training getting results. We were delighted to see our injured teammate Chloe come to cheer us on and happy to hear that she’ll be back in action next week.

U13 Boys
The U13s played their third match in the Div 1 County League at home to Abbeydorney last Tuesday evening. With help from a number of U11 players Parnells got off to a flying start with a nice lead created at the half way point.  However, when the second half got under way it was clear that Abbeydorney were not going to go down without a fight as they scored three goals and a point without reply before the water break.  In the final quarter the lads got back into the game with some great team work all around to secure a few scores. Final result Tralee Parnells:6-11 Abbeydorney 6-2.  We’ll done to all and especially to our friends from the U11s.

U14 Girls

Under 14

The U14 girls had a great win last Monday evening over Cillard. The girls really gelled as a team and have shown real progress in the past few weeks. It will be important to keep this momentum going as we prepare for the semi finals. Great scores by Rachel Falvey, Maeve Trant, Grace Hamilton and Rachel Seargant. Well done to all!.  Thank you to Ryles Pharmacy for sponsoring a new first aid bag for the U14 Camogie squad.

U15 Boys
Having given a walkover to Parnells in the Feile competition last week, Kenmare were again the opposition on Friday evening, this time in the County League. As expected on their home ground, Kenmare fielded a full strength team, whereas Parnells were missing a number of regulars, due to holidays and injuries. Nevertheless, we were still able to put out a team and everyone that played put in a huge effort. Parnells started the brighter and by the first water break were in front by 1-2 to 0-2, the goal coming from Will Somers who finished to the net after a long free by Oisin O’Sullivan had caused panic in the Kenmare defence.

However, Kenmare gradually got a foothold in the game and despite some heroic defending, their big full-forward eventually rattled the Parnells net. Kenmare followed up with two more goals before half time, though Parnells kept the scoreboard ticking over as well with some good long range points from Andrew Kerins, Tomas O’Connell (who was unlucky not to hit the net late in the game with a screamer of a shot) and Eoghan Costello. Half Time: Parnells 1-8 Kenmare 3-4.

Parnells were still in the game at this stage, but Kenmare started to press home their advantage and had another 1-3 on the board before Parnells could reply. With Oisin now operating at full-forward, he was starting to cause a few problems for Kenmare, but the goal we needed wouldn’t come. On the night, everyone fought to the very end and the outstanding Parnells performance was from Mairtín McKivergan, who gave a great display of hurling on his first full game in the Parnells jersey. Thanks also to Ryan Sheehy who stepped up from the U13s. Final score:Parnells 1-12 Kenmare 5-12.

Junior Camogie

It was an intense and action packed game in Caherslee last Wednesday evening in the meeting of the Tralee Parnells junior Camogie team against a visiting Cillard side competing in their first season at this grade.  This was the final game of the Junior County League round robin and a place in the final vs Causeway awaited the winners.

Due to a number of injuries and unavailable players, we called up some under 16s and were able to field a team who put in a great shift on the night.  Cillard had the better of the opening exchanges and went into the lead before the first water break.

However, the home defence did not make it easy for them, with Emily making a number of good saves and clearances and Síle patrolling the box and commanding the full back area, with Rachel and Grace also working well on the back line to make several vital clearances.

On the half back line, Gráinne and Aoife were constantly on the ball, with Aoife doing tireless running and defending throughout and Ellen played out of her skin, chasing and harassing every opposition possession that came her way and turning over attack after attack.

Sisters Lia and Alice did powerful work in the centre, with great running and lots of ball supplied to the forwards.  Before the interval Cillard had through consistent pressure scored more goals and points, but in a great reply before half time, Katie finished off a goalmouth scramble with a batted down strike to the net finished with aplomb.  Our attacks had also secured well taken points, with Lia and Katie to the fore in these efforts.

As the second half progressed the contest turned into a real war of attrition, with Cillard unable to significantly expand their lead due to being stifled by a stout Tralee defence and Parnells, despite creating lots of opportunities and surges forward, finding themselves unable to close the gap and get enough scores from the opportunities created.

On the half forward line Katie was a thorn in the side of the defence, mounting attack after attack, able assisted by Kirby Anne and by Róise who had a great match and ranged up and down the field battling for possession and turning over ball repeatedly, despite coming in to the game carrying an injury.

The inside forwards continued to make life difficult for the last line of defence, with Saorlaith chasing down the sliotar, Aoibhín strong in the air and Caoimhe Donnelly cheekily dispossessing the keeper on the end line and creating a real goal chance by her persistence.

Clodagh took a score that the sideline thought had hit the back of the net, but it ended up landing on top for a point.  Katie and the surrounding attackers looked sure to score another goal chance, only to have it deflected narrowly wide of the post and out for a 45.

In the end Parnells had left themselves too much of a mountain to climb from the first half deficit, but they showed a never say die spirit and battled to the last puck of the ball.  When Tom Godley sounded the final whistle there were a lot of exhausted faces and tired bodies, with every player showing the signs of a monumental effort.

We had several players in contention as player of the match for Parnells, with credit for most valuable player going to the tireless and very effective Ellen who played her heart out at number 6 and had one of her best ever games in the white shirt.

At the end Lia spoke to the group as captain, commending the players on their tireless work rate throughout and acknowledging the contribution and character of everyone including the under 16s who stepped in to the breach at short notice and gave a strong account of themselves.

This encounter is great preparation for the minor county league for most of this number and hopefully the full junior squad will get a few more outings this season too.  Tralee Parnells players:-   Emily O’Donoghue, Clodagh O’Sullivan, Síle Lynch, Rachael O’Sullivan, Aoife O’Sullivan, Grace O’Brien, Lia O’Connell, Caoimhe Donnelly, Kirby Anne Ryan, Katie Dwyer, Saorlaith Moore, Ellen Cooke, Aoibhín Corridan, Róise O’Donnell, Gráinne Leahy, Alice O’Connell. Maith sibh go léir.
