GOLF FUNDRAISER: The British Open is nearly upon us again with the players once again teeing it up at the home of golf at St Andrews on Thursday week, 14th July. The field is complete with the cream of the golf descending on the east coast of Scotland for what is now the final major of the season.

Last year we ran a very successful fundraiser based around the event with John Fox taking down the big €1k prize. More importantly this is a fundraiser for the club with the revenue generated going towards the continuous development of the Austin Stacks Club and its facilities.

The format is largely the same as last year with one difference. This year you pick six and count four just to give players a little bit of leeway in their selections. Once again players can play online, find link on club website & all our social media platforms or alternatively cards will be available from sellers.

Once again players will be able to log on to our live scoreboard to see not only how their players are doing but also how they are progressing on the competition leaderboard. Best wishes to all players and thanks for your support.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: The last round of the Co. League, scheduled for this Saturday (9th July), finds three teams topping the table on eleven points each – Dr.Crokes, Dingle and ourselves. In other major Leagues Crokes would be declared champions on score difference – they have +55, Dingle are on +50 while we are on +41. This season’s Rules state that a play-off will determine the Divisional winner. So it all comes down to the results of Saturday’s games. And all three teams have away games in the final round – Crokes travel to Kenmare, Dingle make the short journey to Gallarus while we travel to Spa, Killarney for a 6pm start (note the change of time).

B FOOTBALL: Unfortunately with recent results not going our way our B Team are already relegated to Division 5 for next season. In the final round of the Co. League on this coming Saturday (9th July) we have a home game against Beale at 7.30pm.

THE C TEAM: Listry 0-11; Austin Stacks 1-6;

This Co. League Shield Final played in Ballymac on last Saturday evening (2nd July) saw another evenly contested affair with the Mid Kerry boys. When the sides met in the earlier round of the competition in Listry the home side had a one point win and on this occasion the margin was two points.

The sides were level on three points each at the end of the first quarter with Kyle Fitzgibbon on target twice from a free and play and Enda Cahill also from play. Listry were in complete control during the second quarter scoring a further four points while we remained scoreless. This left them ahead at half time by 0-7 to 0-3.

We had a very good opening start to the second half. Brilliant work by Tommy McLoughlin and Dara Moriarty led to the only goal of the game put away beautifully by Gearóid Kilgallen By the end of the third quarter we had added a further three points – two pointed frees by Kyle Fitzgibbon and one from play by Jack Doyle. With the opposition adding just one point in this quarter we were ahead by one (1-6 to 0-8) as the game entered the last fifteen minutes. But, like the first half, we went scoreless in the final quarter while Listry added a further three points to clinch victory for them.

Conor Lowe was a brilliant attacking centre-back on the evening and deservedly won the Celsius Mensware Man of the Match Award.

Team: Brian Horgan, Shane Kelliher, Shane Greensmyth (Capt), Craig Teahan, Dean Scanlon, Conor Lowe, Billy Stack, Enda Cahill (0-1), Joe Reidy, Jack Doyle (0-1), Greg Scanlon, Gearóid Kilgallen (1-0), James Charles, Kyle Fitzgibbon (0-4 – three frees), Dara Moriarty.

Subs used: Tommy McLoughlin (34m), Fintan O’Connor (46m), Pádraig Breen (53m), Ger Teahon (57m).

We now look forward to what is the C Team’s favourite competition and that’s The Barrett Cup. No fixtures have come to hand as we write.

U21 FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-12; Rathmore 0-7.

We had a very good result in the opening round of the Co. Championship,  played in dreadful weather condition s in Connolly Park last Monday week (27th June). The quarter final was taking place in Kncoknagoshel on this Monday night (4thJuly) against St. Kierans. Check the webside for details.

Tralee Parnells U7s after a mighty challenge match against Lixnaw in Caherslee

U7 Hurling

Our under 7’s were back in action against Lixnaw in Caherslee last Friday. They were well rested after the weather went against us for previous week’s training but the break to their routine didn’t show.

These determined boys took on every ball and every challenge with gusto and did our club proud. We were delighted to have Shauna our recently qualified Parnells referee on board to referee the match and also to have William Sommers Vice captain of our Féile team to coach the boys.

The inspiration these highly experienced camogie & hurling players offer to our young recruits is unbelievable and we are very grateful for all the help they give us throughout the season. Congratulations to this week’s players of the week: Michéal Raggett & Tadhg McMahon, well done boys.

U14 camogie

The U14 camogie blue team played their round three Co League game against Killarney on Thursday 30th in Caherslee.  Both teams were missing players due to holidays and other commitments and played 12 a side.

Tralee Parnells showed their intent and determination from the throw in. They worked tirelessly all over the pitch for the duration . The girls linked up well together and had some great passages of play. They were comprehensive winners on the night

Feile na nGael

After making club history in winning our first club All-Ireland the team and coaches had little chance to rest.

On Monday the boys visited the primary schools in the town where with the Kerry and All-Ireland trophies were on display.  Due to inclement weather the homecoming was deferred to Tuesday evening.

This was a well attended event where the boys and coaches were on stage at the car park in Caherslee.

Our Chairperson Stephen Stephen Buttimer opened proceedings as he remarked on this huge achievement for a young club.  Coach Mark Ryall following with a few words of introduction for each player.

Manager Brain Shanahan followed with fulsome praise for the boys and his fellow coaches.  Full back Kyle Benson brought the evening to a close by singing a song.

The Tralee Parnells Senior team that defeated Kenmare in the first round of the Intermediate Championship

Intermediate Championship

The hurlers of Tralee Parnells have had a number of league matches already this year against the traditionally strong North Kerry clubs. So most dispassionate observers would likely have seen this as a significant advantage, against a Kenmare side who lacked this level of preparation and match practice.

The venue is remarkably scenic and the many supporters had a grandstand view, looking down on the pitch from their vantage points, with the waters of Kenmare bay visible below, against the stunning backdrop of the mountains running west along the historic Béara peninsula.

True to form, the visitors opened more brightly on Friday evening in their Intermediate First Round game, securing early scores from D. Reen (free) and from M. Madden who took a fine individual point on a surge forward from the half back line.

There seemed to be at least 2 defenders harrying Reen throughout, any time he got on the ball on the half forward line or further in.

But he nonetheless helped his team by securing frees in scorable positions.  Reen converted from play off an Eddie Sheehy pass and the Tralee team were starting to look comfortable, but there followed 2 wides and Kenmare, while striking wides of their own, also kept the scoreboard ticking over with 4 points in the first half including frees.  Morgan Madden, Cillian Litchfield and Enda O’Connor tacked on points to complete the Parnells first half tally.

In the later stages of the first half however, Kenmare, who did not appear to have read the script, won a well taken goal, where their agile forwards got inside the defence.

This really turned the tables and completely changed the momentum of the game.  Their tails up, the home side challenged  vigorously for possession and put the North Kerry side on the back foot, disrupting clearances, blocking down pass and clearance attempts, and creating repeated scoring opportunities.

The half time score line of 1-5 to 0-6 in favour of the hosts, would have been even more starkly in contrast to the perceived form coming into the game, were it not for the many efforts that tailed off wide of the uprights.

The Kenmare Shamrocks club may not be quite as venerable as the legendary Cailleach Béara, but as the first half came to a conclusion, their players certainly looked the more seasoned, in contrast to the predominantly younger panel in town from points north.

Despite their better run-in in terms of preparation, the Parnells were perhaps suffering from the drawback that they were without their county panel players, in most of the preceding matches and were not used to playing as a unit, in these positions.

The home dressing room was no doubt the happier place to be at the interval. Decisive action seemed to be called for from the Parnells sideline.

This came in the form of radical surgery, with 3 half time substitutions, calling on players who were not started due to completing recoveries or lacking match practice. Daragh Moloney and Luke Chester were called on to buttress the defence, while Gearóid O’Doherty came in to bolster the forward play.

Doc immediately steadied the ship with a converted placed ball after the restart and added 2 further white flags from frees won by the forwards.  Kenmare were not letting their advantage slip easily though and they battled strongly to add a couple of points of their own.

In another turning point of an increasingly absorbing contest, Darragh Reen, tightly marked on the right wing down by the Kenmare bay shoreline, passed to Eddie Sheehy who quickly found the inrushing Enda O’Connor.  The Na Gaeil man rattled the back of the net, to cheers of relief as much as celebration, for the visiting support.

Another Reen point saw the scores at 1-10 to 1-8 in favour of the visitors, while further substitutions saw Ciaran Breen and Darragh Keane add fresh legs.  Kenmare meanwhile were disappointed to see further wides from their continuing attacking efforts.

The home team pointed a free and drew applause for an expertly pointed sideline cut, but with 2 further frees over the bar by O’Doherty and a Reen point from play, the Parnells contingent may have finally been starting to breathe a sigh of relief with a 3 point advantage as the clock ran into the red.

This game had another twist in the plot however.  A Kenmare free from around midway was sent on a low trajectory, tantalisingly into the crowded Parnells penalty area.

It was Kenmare who managed to gain possession and there were gasps all around the ground, as a close in bullet that sought the equaliser, rattled back off the crossbar and back into play.

In the ensuing scramble to clear, the outrushing Darragh Moloney was heavily fouled. The ensuing free was cleared to a safe distance and the long whistle sounded, to mark the end of an epic tussle.

Parnells had dug deep to get out of jail after a rusty first half, and while Kenmare may not have equaled the Clare wides tally vs the Cats the following day, they were left to ponder the what ifs, of scoring chances not taken.  However, the qualifiers route was now open to the Shamrocks and based on the display on the night, the competition may well not have seen the last of this side.

The full time score in the 1st round of the Intermediate Championship on Friday night in Kenmare was 1-14 to 1-11 in favour of a very relieved Tralee Parnells.  Lineup: Mark Ryall, Jack Doyle, Tadhg Brick, Stephen Morrisey, Ruarí O Sullivan, Luke Barrett, Morgan Madden, Cathal Dunne, Cillian Litchfield, Cillian O’Riordan, Darragh Reen, Enda O’Connor, Andrew Morrisey, Ronan Gilsenan, Eddie Sheehy.   Substitutes used Daragh Moloney, Luke Chester, Gearóid O’Doherty, Ciaran Breen and Darragh Keane

Juvenile Academy

U7

A great morning with our u7’s who all showed great skill and enthusiasm throughout our session. After our warmup we split into 3 pods for our hand passing, soloing and kick passing drills and we then finished with 2 competitive matches. Again, well done to all, and the practice at home is showing.

U8 Girls

Well done to our girls, who played Sunday Afternoon at home to John Mitchells. Great skills on display & the girls are learning all the time. Keep up the skills practice, we will train as normal next Sunday morning at St Pats at 10.30.

U9

The u9s started by practicing their soloing and tackling skills during the warmup and went into one-on-one goal kicking followed by some brilliant point kicking. We had a long and competitive game to finish with the colors hanging on for a one-point victory after a great comeback by the oranges. We play Cordal on Thursday evening in St pats at 6.30pm, please be there for 6.15pm.

U10 Girls

U10 Girls played their 4th match of the season today Sunday 3rd of July at home to John Mitchel’s. The girls played well together and worked really hard throughout the game.

They switched around positions at the breaks taking turns in defense, mid-field, up front and in goal. All 10 girls, Sofia, Ria, Rosie, Ailbhe, Clodagh, Emma Gilbride, Mary-Kate, Eve, and Emma and Jessica Lacey had strong performances and fought hard for the duration. They took some lovely scores and a fine goal! Well done to all the girls on a great performance today!! And see you all at training as normal next Sunday 10.30am.

U11 Boys

Well done to the lads for trying hard against a very strong Finuge team last Thursday. That was the last of our county go games program. We are expecting the central region games program to commence in a few weeks which will also be on Thursday evenings. The boys trained Sunday morning and will also train next Thursday with the time to be confirmed. There will be no training next Sunday as a lot will be travelling to Croke Park to support Kerry.

U12 Girls

Well done to Ava our well-deserved player of the week. Ava only joined St. Pats a few weeks ago and it is unbelievable to see her improvement in such a short space of time. In Our last game Ava stood out to all her coaches and she works so hard in every training session.

It is very clear to see she is practicing her skills at home. Training continues this week. The County league B final against Austin Stacks is rescheduled for July 13th Time and Venue is to be decided.

U15

There are two matches for the U15 in different divisions in the Central Region Phase 2.

Our U15’s St Pats/Kerins O Rahillys play in John Mitchels in Division 2 against John Mitchels on the Wednesday 6th of July at 7pm.

Our 15’s St Pats/Kerins O Rahillys play away in Austin Stacks in Division 5 against Austin Stacks on Wednesday 6th of July at 7pm.

U17

St Pats/Kerins O Rahillys 2-12 Skellig Rangers /Valentia 1-15

This was a game that had it all. Huge leads, massive performances, epic comebacks. All played in atrocious conditions, in front of a vocal and supportive crowd that was nearly as exhausted as the players by the end!

Skellig Rangers/Valentia raced into an early lead, having seized complete control of the game from the off.

Our lads might not have been at their skillful best in the first 20 minutes, but they have really developed a terrific team spirit.

Driven forward by Jake Foley, who was only just coming back from a serious injury, by half time we reduced the deficit from 10 points to a much more manageable 6 points having played poorly and against the elements.

The 2nd half will be spoken about for years to come. St Pats/Kerins O Rahillys attacked relentlessly, slowly yet steadily reeling in a resolute Skellig Rangers/Valentia. Yet every time we drew level, we found ourselves a point behind again.

With the minimum between the teams, we often went for the winning goal when an equalizing point would have kept momentum on our side.

Somehow, with time nearly up and we a point down, we managed to get the ball to Jake, who barely able to stand, kicked a monstrous equalizer. So, honours even on the night. If the replay is even half as good, we’ll be in for a great game. We know we can play better and will need to if we are to progress. Replay to be arranged.

U21

The Acorn Life U21 County Football Championship began on Monday night last St Brendan’s Board against Laune Rangers.

In horrendous conditions both sides fought hard to win the first match. Three of St Pats Seniors were on the St Brendan’s panel Fergal O Brien, Niall McCarthy, and Cormac Lynch. At half time St Brendan’s Board 1-06 Laune Rangers 1-02, Fergal O Brien scored three points from frees between the first and second half as play continued it looked like St Brendan’s Board would win with a last-minute goal for Laune Rangers it was a draw St Brendan’s Board 3-08 Luane Rangers 3-08. Extra Time was needed Half time score AET St Brendan’s 3-11 Laune Rangers 3-09. Full time score AET St Brendan’s Board 3-13 Laune Rangers 3-10. Well done to all.

St Brendan’s Board next match is against Kenmare District in Blennerville at 7.30pm.

NÓTAÍ NA mBAN*
As part of our “One Good Club” programme we are having a Family Fun and Well-being Day on Sunday,  July 17th. What a day it will be for our club and community with live music from Owen Rua, dancing and fun moves from our world dance  championship teacher Cassie Leen, face painting, puppet show, food, fun competitions , sport and much more.
Our Ukrainian friends will also be joining us. Our committee are putting our heads together with
members of theirs to do something also on the day. All welcome!

*U12 GIRLS*
Our ladies were just outstanding during the Co. league. We may not have brought home any silverware but we have two lovely teams from front to back. Great team bonding and friendships made too. A real joy to see how well everyone is progressing over the past few months.

*CROKE PARK TRIP*
Our U12s are off to Croke Park on Sunday, July 31st . It should be a great day out with plenty of ladies football to watch. We’re looking forward to a great day of fun, bonding and football. What a day it will be !

*MLGFA BLITZ*
Looking forward to heading to a Munster LGFA blitz on Saturday, August 20th.
Pre Covid our teams would have gone to many a local blitz in Kerry or another county…many of us  remember travelling to villages that we had never heard of in remote areas and always getting a warm welcome from the host clubs. We had good times back then!
We held the MLGFA U8 / U10  blitz in Ballyrickard a few years ago. The more games players play , the better as they’re putting into action what they’re learning while also  enjoying themselves.

*KERINS O’ RAHILLY TEAM*
We played Scartaglin in the division 2 B final of the Co. League last Wednesday evening.
It was defined a game of four quarters as we  struggled to get our game going in the first three and found ourselves a good few points down but managed to get things moving in the fourth quarter  and actually found ourselves catching up .

The goalies from both teams had great kick outs but many went out over the sideline as the width of the pitch seemed confusing for them.

We made a change in positions the final 10 minutes  . Our late rally unfortunately wasn’t enough though and we ran out of time. It was a performance that we will learn much from and will stand them in good stead with more competitions to play.

Thanks to our coaches and supporters  who always give each and every girl plenty of encouragement and support.

Our captains on the day were Allie Kerins and Emma Onyekwere who showed great leadership as always. Congrats to our young ladies who always do us proud .

Thanks to Scartaglin  for a sporting game, to the ref for his excellent officiating and to all the supporters in attendance.
Congrats to Scart on their win.

*STRAND ROAD BLUES*
These carefree bubbly young ladies  took to the field against Listowel’s St. Emmets last Sunday morning in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard for the Co. league final.

Captains on the day were Rachael Ahern and Emily Corridon who have come on so much over the past few months.

Our ladies were sporting their new jerseys , sponsored by Sandy Feet Farm.
Hard luck to everyone! A mighty effort by all involved .
Their new jerseys only look Fantastic!

*U14 GIRLS*
KOR v CURROW
Our team welcomed Currow for round 5 of the Co. League division 4 game last Tuesday evening . We played well together from the first whistle and ran out winners, which their performance deserved. Hard work, teamwork, skill and commitment on show throughout with some great scores too.

On the Ring last Sunday.. Kerins O’ Rahilly’s U14s who played Southern Gaels , beautiful drive, great scenery and a fine win.

SOUTHERN GAELS B v KOR
An early but scenic  drive on part of the Ring last Sunday as we travelled to play Southern Gaels B in round 6.
The girls capped off a wonderful week of football with a superb performance against the home team. Well done to our players and management. Thank you to Southern Gaels for hosting and best wishes for the rest of the Co. League.

*U16 GIRLS*
Training times will be sent out during the week.

*MINOR LADIES*
We have confirmed our Co. league semi final v Castleisland Desmonds for Thursday, July 28th,  Time TBC

*SENIOR LADIES*
Well done to our senior ladies who were away to St. Pats / Churchill last Tuesday for division 4 of the Donal Curtin Cup .
Hardy tackles, huge work rate , great scores and a great bunch of ladies. Thanks to our coaches and not forgetting the referee George O’ Donnell for coming to the rescue.
Next game is against St. Pats / Churchill again. This time in the North Kerry league. We have home advantage.

*BEST WiSHES*
All roads lead to Tullamore next Saturday , July 9th as we take on Armagh in the All Ireland Senior Championship quarter final. All eyes will be on our Kerry ladies with Strand Road’s Declan Quill as joint manager. We wish our Kerry team and management the very best , let’s go Kerry!

Juvenile Notes

U8/U10/GIRLS

We had a excellent turnout on Wednesday night as our mid week training continued.

The girls got stuck straight in to some drills where we focused mainly on kick passing and scoring we then had a very competitive game where we worked on postional play for upcoming games.

The girls are showing the benefit of the extra sessions keep up the good work girls.

U12 Girls

The u12 girls trained on Sunday morning, they   may have had a low number turnout for training due to the Kerry match, but they didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits as they were eager to continue with training in preparation for their upcoming county final against duagh.

The improvement in the girls is very clear to see as they grow with confidence with every training session & competing in matches. The bond they have formed as a team is incredible to see. The coaches are extremely proud of all the girls in everything they have achieved so far and have no doubt there is still more to come.

Sunday saw the girl’s face Duagh in the county final .Grace O Regan captained the girls . Unfortunately it wasn’t Mitchels day. The girls put in a tremendous effort but duagh was too strong. Congratulations to Duagh girls.

Training continues Wednesday 7-8

U14 GIRLS

John Mitchels u14 girls were due to play Legion in the County League on Friday last in a rescheduled game.

However, Legion were unable to field a team and conceded the points leaving the team in a good position going into the last 2 games of the League.

Next up for the team is a game away to Ballymacelligott on Saturday next at 6pm.

U16 GIRLS

All newcomers welcome.

UNDER 9 BOYS

John Mitchel’s u9 boys were full of enthusiasm this week after Kerry great win over Mayo.

For this week’s session we concentrated on movement and fitness before jumping into 4 highly contested small sided games.

Training continues for u9 boys every Sunday from 10.15am

All Newcomers Welcome.

UNDER 11 BOYS

Our U 10/11s teams  put up fantastic performances on Thursday night  away to Rathmore given we were down a good few bodies.

A masterclass in tackling and blockdowns on show and were something to behold.

Lots of younger boys stepping up levels and comfortably at that.

Massive thanks again to Jonathon and Padraig for helping out with both teams .

This was our final game in the County League phase 2.

Training continues Sunday morning at 10.30 am.

Fixtures – Our older U11  boys have been invited to Miltown Castlemaine Annual U11 Invitational  Blitz on the 17th July. Details to follow .

UNDER 13 BOYS

On Tuesday our U13 A Team lined out against Keel/Listry in the County League Div 1 Final. The game was held in the Austin Stacks Park in front of a large crowd who witnessed two teams going at it hammer and tongs from the first minute to the last. We had three goals in the first half courtesy of Calvin O Sullivan (2) and Adrian Molloy, but Keel Listry never panicked and kept chipping away at our lead.

The second half saw us with plenty of scoring opportunities, but the goals and points were just not happening for us, as Keel Listry’s defence held tough to win the day. In the end it was absolute heartbreak for our boys as they were defeated by Keel Listry 3-9 to 3-7.

However, the boys should take heart in the fine display of football they gave, in what was a pulsating game played by two fine teams.

It was also a pleasure for everybody in the club to see the Green and Gold of John Mitchels play in a League Final in Tralee’s Austin Stack Park – it’s a night that will live long in the memory of those who were in the stadium that evening!

Following the heartbreak of Tuesday evening’s loss, the U13 B Team took to the field in Milltown the following Sunday to contest the County League Div 13 Final against Laune Rangers.

The opposition were out of the blocks very quickly banging in some early goals leaving us somewhat shell-shocked and at one stage 10 points down!

Despite this, we kept our composure and our players didn’t panic. We chipped away at the Rangers lead with vital goals coming in each half and some lovely point scoring, together with some absolutely superb defending by the Mitchel’s backs in the second half. Both teams gave it everything but Mitchels came on top by the narrowest of margins: 1 point.

The final score was John Mitchels 3-15 Laune Rangers 5-8. There were jubilant scenes after the match as captain Dylan Sheridan accepted the League trophy on behalf of the team.

Sunday’s game marked the end of the County League campaign for the U13 teams. We still have the completion of the Town League, as well as the Central League,  to look forward to.

We are currently waiting on the details of these two competitions, so we will give the boys some well deserved rest over the next week or two. However, we will get back to training soon, so keep an eye out for times and dates.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest – both teams deserve it! All the boys have trained very hard since last February and the Club is very proud of what they have achieved. Congratulations as well to all the boys’ families, and thank you for your patience and help throughout the two league campaigns!

Development League Div 2 Final
Ballymacelligott 1-15 Listowel Emmets 1-09

Photo shows Kevin Sweeny Captain with the winning trophy, Ballymac Development Squad, and selectors last Friday night in Kileen following their win.

Ballymac led from the beginning in this high-scoring final played in Kileen on Saturday evening last. Listowel came within two points on a few occasions but Ballymac always extended the lead to go on and win.

Twelve minutes into the game and Ballymac had 1-05 on the scoreboard without any score from the opposition. To their credit, Listowel came back and scored 5 points in the last eight minutes of the half.  Ballymac went into the break 1-08 to 0-05 in the lead.

Three minutes into the second half, Listowel scored a goal lesson leaving three points between the teams. Another point from Listowel and we had a game on.

We had tit-for-tat point-scoring until five minutes were left on the clock: Ballymac 1-12 to Listowel 1-8. Ballymac put the heads down, lifted their game, and scored three more points to finish off deserving winners on a score-line of 1-15 to 1-09.

Captain Kevin Sweeney was presented with the winning trophy and it was a nice end to a year of hard work and training by this young side.

Credit to The County Board for running this vital and so important competition for young Club players. A competitive match beats training any day. It gives focus and room for learning and improvement.

The growth shown by this team as individuals and as teammates was a delight to behold. This was the true “trophy” for our club; keeping our young lads playing together and improving as well.

Thanks to all the players who gave their time and energy to the Ballymac Development Squad, to the Management team of Sean Brosnan, Tony Silles, Mike Sweeney & Tom Shea, and to all our loyal supporters who came to watch the team and got behind them at every game.

We wish a speedy recovery to our injured players. We look forward to having you all back on the pitch shortly. Ballymac Abú.

St. Kierans

Best of luck to St. Kierans tomorrow Monday evening, especially all our Ballymac Players who are part of the team in the second round of The Acorn Life U-21 Football Championship this Monday evening at 7.30pm in Knocknagoshel as they take on Austin Stacks.

Public’s Input Wanted For Creative Ireland Kerry Strategy

.

KERRY County Council’s Creative Ireland Kerry Office is inviting people of all ages, across Kerry, to help inform the priorities to deliver the next Creative Ireland Kerry Strategy 2023-2027.

Cathaoirleach of Kerry, Cllr. John Francis Flynn has welcomed this invitation. “Creativity has people at its heart, and in Kerry there are many people who are involved in creativity, and many people who need to have more opportunity to get involved.”

He further stated that; ‘The Creative Ireland Kerry programme has done great work these past five years, there is no doubt in my mind that the next five years will bring more communities on board and bring creativity into many more homes across Kerry”.

Continued below…

.

Nationally, the Creative Ireland programme has five key pillars for the next five years these are: (1) Creative Youth, (2) Creative Community, (3) Creative Industries, (4) Creative Health and Well-being, (5) Creative Climate Action and Sustainability.

Creative Ireland defines creativity broadly as: “A set of innate abilities and learned skills; the capacity of individuals and organisations to transcend accepted ideas and norms and, by drawing on imagination, to create new ideas that bring additional value to human activity”.

Kerry County Council has been progressive in adapting its programme over the past five years to work with communities and the creative sector.

The programme has moved from grants based year one, to projects of scale and ambition year two and three, as was the ask at the time nationally.

All programme delivery is available to view on the website www.creativeireland.ie/Kerry

“Creative Ireland is very much about citizen and societal well-being’ stated Arts Officer and Creative Ireland Coordinator in Kerry, Kate Kennelly, ‘As we shape a new strategy, supported by Creative Ireland & the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media, we want Creative Ireland to be about the people of Kerry, and very much for the people of Kerry’.

Consultation is open via an online Questionnaire https://tinyurl.com/CIK2022  and also via an online public meeting Thursday 14th July at 6.15 pm’.

To register for this meeting and receive the meeting link,  please email to arts@kerrycoco.ie.

If people want to submit ideas in writing they are welcome to do so to arts@kerrycoco.ie or to the Arts Office, County Buildings, Rathass, Tralee. For calls please phone 066 7183541, Monday to Friday 9-5.

“We hope to have the draft strategy available for public consultation early in the final quarter of 2022,” said Kate.

Full details will be available on Kerry County Council’s website www.kerrycoco.ie and through online Arts Service social media @KerryCoArts.

Areas awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for providing a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture, while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.

The Tralee Chamber Purple Flag committee in collaboration with Kerry County Council, An Garda Siochana and the Tralee vintners submitted a detailed renewal application and after an assessment from independent judges they were thrilled with the news that Tralee passed all Purple Flag criteria, as well as attaining the thresholds of decreasing crime statistics.

The town was commended for offering vibrant appeal, a stimulating destination, and a strong partnership approach across all stakeholders.

Highlights from Tralee’s submission include the re-launch of the ‘Safe Nights Out’ campaign, the Street Mural project, the ‘See it Say it’ campaign and the Ask for Angela campaign being taken on by the Tralee Taxi Association.

Sponsored: Sustainability Modules Introduced On Programmes At Kerry College

.
Emma Hayes pictured at Kerry College Clash Road Campus, Tralee with Deputy Principal Carmel Kelly, Science teacher Katie Zubeyko and learners who studied Sustainability under Emma’s guidance recently.

EMPLOYERS in the county and beyond are now reaping the benefits of the introduction of a sustainability module by Kerry College as an add-on to many of its programmes.

Kerry ETB have been working continuously on the implementation of its sustainability strategy over the past number of years which has seen a number of green initiatives being introduced across its schools and adult education centres.

Emma Hayes, a teacher at Kerry College, led the roll out of a City and Guilds Certificate in Sustainability to adult learners at a number of its campuses this year.

Emma says; “This module was very well received by students many of whom have secured employment and are putting the knowledge they acquired on sustainability into practice in their new workplaces. Employers are eager to recruit graduates who are environmentally conscious and who are ready to assist them achieve their green goals by creating more sustainable work environments.”

Evan Murphy, a Kerry College learner who studied under Emma’s guidance for this City and Guilds certification gave his thoughts on the programme.

“Sustainability is paramount in today’s changing world,” he said. “The negative impact of human industries on the global environment needs to be addressed.  This module showed young people the basics of what they can do and where they can go for help in addressing their businesses impact on the environment.  It showed learners how they can make changes in their future workplaces and daily lives to negate and reverse their impact.’

Kerry ETB continues to add value to their qualifications for the benefit of both learners and employers.  Employers now have access to skilled graduates who have explored sustainability in conjunction with their chosen vocational area.

Kerry College are now accepting applications on www.kerrycollege.ie for all their September 2022 further education courses.
