The Rathmore clubman, burst onto the intercounty scene when giving a man-of-the-match performance in the 1969 All Ireland Final partnering the legendary Mick O’Connell at midfield prompting the famed John D. Hickey in the Irish Independent to report “This was a “tour de force” by Crowley if ever there was one”.

A year later, in the famous 80 minute final against Meath, Crowley left an indelible mark on the game when scoring one of the most celebrated goals in the history of All Ireland football finals following a famous solo run from the middle of the field. That goal not alone ensured a 22nd title for the Kingdom but it also ensured that the Rathmore man would for ever more be associated with that final prompting a Sunday newspaper to proclaim in colour “The Goal of the Century”,” concluded the statement.
