THERE were calls for traffic lights to be installed at a busy intersection from a housing estate onto a main road in Tralee.

At the meeting of Tralee Municipal District  of Kerry County Council on Monday, Fianna Fáil Cllr Mikey Sheehy called for the local authority to consider a traffic light system at the junction of Caherslee and Lioscarraig Court/Drive.

Cllr Sheehy said there was serious congestion in the area in the morning and evening and it was a junction crying out for traffic lights.

In reply, Council management said there are over 200 houses in the Lioscarrig Area, with one exit onto the Caherslee Road.

The junction has been identified in the Tralee Transportation Strategy as requiring improvement and MOVA signalisation for which the budget estimate is €120,000.

This project has to-date been unsuccessful in securing funding from Active/Smarter travel funding mechanisms.

The proposal can however be considered for submission, along with proposed improvements to other junctions, if further funding calls under Active/Smarter travel are published hereafter.
