Gardaí Seize Over €1,000 From Charity Collectors Operating Without Permits

beige garda symbolGARDAÍ are warning people to beware of  charity collectors operating without permits after four people went around Tralee last Friday collecting for a seriously ill Cavan girl.

Gardaí were alerted by a member of the public, that people were going door to door in local estates asking for money to help the girl.

While the cause of the child was genuine, the collectors did not have a permit to collect money and Gardaí seized well over €1,000 from them.

Speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ programme earlier today, Garda Cara Kelly said people should insist on seeing a permit if anyone calls looking for donations, or if you are approached on the street.
