The St Pat’s Under 14s heading off to Féile na nÓg on Friday morning, being cheered across the bridge by families and pupils from Blennerville NS.
BLENNERVILLE school staff and pupils gave a great send-off to the St Pat’s Under 14 side in their quest for glory this weekend.
The squad departed Blennerville just after 9am on Friday and pupils from the local school came out to line the bridge in the red and white colours to wish them luck in the Féile na nÓg competition which takes place in South Leinster (Carlow/Wicklow/Wexford) this weekend.
There was great excitement in the school as it is well represented with four current pupils – Danny Greaney, Tomás O’ Sullivan, Tadgh Kerins and Jamie O’ Brien and seven former pupils on the squad.
The team and mentors head to Craanford in Wexford today where we will play Newry Shamrocks and Craanford on Friday at 5pm and 6pm respectively and then travel up the M11 to their host club Newtownmountkennedy in Wicklow.
On Saturday at 11:15am they play Newtown and will then be in a quarter final of the cup or shield depending on their success in the previous games.
Of course there’s another Tralee team involved. Austin Stacks Under 14s go to Dunlavin, County Wicklow, today where the St Nicholas’ Club are hosting them for the Féile. They play their three group games there before moving on to Carlow on Saturday evening. If successful they will go on to the semis and finals in Ferns on Sunday.
Hopefully we’ll see silverware from both clubs making its way to the town on Sunday.
