The excellent Tralee Food Festival isn’t the only event on in town this weekend. There’s fun runs, book launches, music and a bit of a hurling match going on…

Friday

1. One for history buffs…

Those with an interest in history may want to head over to Ballygarry House Hotel tonight at 7.30pm.

Listowel native Martin Moore is launching his book, ‘The Call To Arms’, which examines the military career of Thomas McEllistrim from 1913 to 1923 and the fight for freedom in Kerry.

Martin’s book is dedicated to the memory of his daughter, Fiona, who passed away in 2013. All are welcome.

It’s a warm-up to the main event, which takes place from November 11-13 in the hotel. Entry to the event on is a donation to Kerry Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KSPCA)  and music comes from Rock & Blues DJ David Foley.

Saturday

There are 70 people taking part in the Kerry 24/12/6 Hour Endurance Race which sees runners doing a constant circuit of the Town Park over 24, 12 or six hour periods.

The main sporting action takes place in Austin Stack Park this weekend with Kilmoyley and Ballyduff renewing their rivalry in the replayed County Hurling Final at 5pm. If it’s anything like the game two weeks ago it should be great entertainment.

Sunday

5. Family fun in Blennerville

This Sunday sees the Tony O’Donoghue Memorial Walk take place from St Pat’s GAA Club at 11.30am (weather permitting). All proceeds of the walk will go to the Palliative Care Unit /Kerry Hospice which benefitted to the tune of €2,000 last year from the event.

CBS, The Green is hosting its second 5k and 3k fun runs at 1pm.

The fun run which saw over 500 runners take part last year is a fund raiser for the school’s all-weather pitch which is currently under construction.

Walkers are also welcome. The cost of the event is €10 for adults and €5 for students and children.

With prizes for the winners, music, medals for all, a mass warm up on the day, post-race refreshments, bouncy castles and face painting for the kids, this event promises to be a great day out for all the family.

Registration and number collection takes place in the school on Saturday, September 24 from 2pm to 6pm and on the day of the run from 9am to 12.45pm. More information on Facebook (CBS, the Green 5k/3k run) or contact the school on (066) 7145824.
