A Few Things To Do Over Christmas And St Stephen’s Day

Have a great Christmas everyone! If you get bored over the next few days, here’s a few things to see or participate in…

1. Enjoy the Christmas Eve atmosphere…

Christmas Eve is always a lovely day in the town centre as everyone is relaxed and has already done their shopping (apart from the frantic few men running into CH or jewellery stores looking for something for ‘herself’).

‘Santa Claus The Show’ will see Santa Claus and his friends return to The Square one last time  at 2.00pm and 3.30pm so families can enjoy a spectacular interactive festive stage production with a show jingle jam-packed with a sleigh full of Christmas fun, stories, songs, and dances to engage children and adults of all ages.

2. Take a dip in Banna or Fenit…

The Christmas swims are back with a bang this year with Banna and Fenit being the closest in the Tralee area.

The Fenit swim takes place at 12 noon and is the biggest one in Kerry with around 800 happy dippers taking the plunge every year. It’s for a great cause too — Fenit RNLI.

Beautiful Banna Beach is the setting for brave souls to venture into at 12.30pm so come early and stay safe everyone. You can donate on the day to Banna Rescue.

3. Walk off the Christmas Day excesses…

Once again, you can join Michael ‘Fox’ O’Connor and friends for the annual Bill Kirby Memorial Walk on St Stephen’s Day in aid of the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

It starts from the Brogue Inn at 11.30am but the fun and entertainment begins from 11am.

4. Remembering Daniel…

It’s pretty quiet in terms of activities on St Stephen’s Day, but there is the annual Daniel Coffey Memorial Cup Soccer Tournament which will be held at the Low Field.

The tournament, which was first held in 2014, celebrates a talented footballer, Daniel Coffey from Marian Park, who sadly passed away nine years ago.

Tralee Dynamos legends, current players, youth players and Daniel’s teammates of old make up the four team in the tournament which kicks off at 11am and finishes around 12.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to The Huddle Bar afterwards for refreshments with Player of the Tournament and Top Scorer awards handed out. All proceeds raised on the day go towards the Peter McVerry Trust and Tralee International Resource Centre.
