ONE of Kerry’s rising talents could be set for a move away from Gaelic Football to Australian Rules.

According to media reports this morning, 2015 Kerry minor captain, Mark O’Connor, will travel for a two week stay in Melbourne in October where he will be courted by AFL clubs.

The high-fielding young star won All-Ireland minor titles in 2014 and 2015 and was named man-of-the-match in the 2015 final against Tipperary.

The UL student was one of only of handful of players from those teams that was drafted in to train with the Kerry seniors this year and is expected to appear for Kerry at some stage in the coming National League season.

O’Connor is a classic, rangy high-fielding midfielder with a burst of pace and an eye for goal.

Along with winning titles with Kerry, the Dingle man won back-to-back Hogan Cups with Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne and was named man-of-the-match in both finals.

The decision to travel to Australia means that O’Connor will not play for Dingle against South Kerry when the county championship resumes at the quarter-final stage on October 1.
