Kerry School of Music in rehearsals for Sunday night’s concert.

THE Kerry School of Music Senior and Junior Orchestras and Flute Choir, Kerry Chamber Choir and Orchestra, Light Opera Society of Tralee and special guests will perform Mistletoe and Wine this coming Sunday night, December 18 in St. John’s Church, Castle Street beginning at 7pm.

The concert was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday last, December 11 in the ‘other’ St. John’s in Ashe Street but was postponed due to the extreme weather warning.

Special guests on the night are classical pianists Éimhear Ní Fhlannarbha, Rockchapel, Co. Cork and Ciara Geaney, Dingle who are respectively Kerry School of Music Musicians of the Year 2021 and 2022.

Tarbert Soprano Caitriona Fitzmaurice, a recent 1st Honours BMus. graduate of MTU/Cork School of Music will also be to the fore on Sunday night as will Tralee Tenors Sean McElligott and Rae Moriary.

The annual Mistletoe and Wine concert focusses on the more secular side of Christmas. All the usual suspects are there including Adolf Adam’s O Holy Night, Schubert’s Ave Maria (specially arranged for Soloist and SATB choir by Aidan).

A notable feature of this year’s concert is a series of audience singalong medleys composed specially by Aidan for a series of pre-Christmas family-centred concerts in Los Angeles this Christmas.

“It’s great to hear my music performed by a  professional choir and orchestra in the States. This Sunday, however, we’re bringing it all home. The 25-piece KSM Senior Orchestra, Kerry Chamber Choir and Light Opera Society have risen to the challenge and, with the audience’s help should raise the roof on St. John’s,” says Aidan.

The programme abounds in seasonal favourites as well as popular pieces such as the Evening Prayer from Hansel and Gretel, Schubert’s Ave Maria, the Wexford Carol and Walking in the air from The Snowman. All items are accompanied by the 25-member Kerry School of Music Orchestra under the very capable direction of Aidan O’ Carroll.

Tickets are available from Kerry School of Music on 066-7125690 but will also be available at the door but patrons are advised to come early.
