DEATH OF COLM HARTY: He was the Club’s oldest former player, having celebrated his 100th birthday just eleven weeks ago (on 22ndJuly). Colm Harty was born in the year that the Club was founded and he passed away peacefully at his home in Dublin yesterday afternoon (8th Oct).

He was just 17 years old when he made his SF Championship debut on the 4th November 1934 and two years later he was part of that 1936 team that won the Club’s 5th Co. Championship title. Sincere sympathy is extended to Colm’s family both in Dublin and here in Kerry.

SYMPATHY:  Sincere sympathy is also offered to the families of the following who died recently – Timothy (Timmy) O’Brien, Árd Carraig, Caherslee; Patrick Joseph (PJ) Lucey, Kilcornan and Raheen (Limerick) and Tralee; Derry Weir, Old Marian Park and formerly Tipperary Town; Simon Ross, Reidy’s Terrace, Casement’s Avenue and London; and Seán (John) McCord, Marian Park .

CENTENARY GALA DINNER: To celebrate Austin Stacks Hurling and Football Club’s centenary year, we are hosting a Gala Dinner on next Saturday night (14th Oct) in The Rose Hotel, Tralee.

The night will kick off with a champagne reception at 7pm followed by dinner at 8pm.

Music will be provided by Keep in Touch followed by a disco with Austin Stacks resident DJ Francie Breen. Special presentations will be made on the night along with some fantastic spot prizes along the way.

JUVENILE ACADEMY: Juvenile PRO, Brian Caball reminds us that our Juvenile Academy will be entertaining the Boys and Girls of Killarney Legion in Connolly Park on this coming Sunday, October 15th with some challenge games, commencing at 10.30am.  There will be a Club Fundraising Bake Sale on the morning and we invite everyone (boys & girls) to get involved and get baking.  Please drop off your baking to the Clubrooms Connolly Park on this Saturday (14th Oct) between 6-8pm or on Sunday morning from 10am to 10.30am.  The Juvenile Committee is asking everyone to please support this special event if at all possible.

HURLING: The Annual Trevor Barrett Tournament goes ahead in Connolly Park on next Saturday (14th Oct) commencing at 1.30pm. Five Clubs are taking part – Stacks, Causeway, St. Brendans (each having an A and B team),  Dr. Crokes and Duagh. This means that eight teams will be taking part. We will have four round one games with two semi finals in the Shield and Cup, concluding with a Shield and Cup final. All ten games will be 10 minutes a half.

The following is the schedule: Game 1- Causeway A .v. Dr. Crokes at 1.30; Game 2 – St. Brendans A .v. Duagh at 1.55; Game 3 – Stacks A .v. Causeway B at 2.20; Game 4 – St. Brendans B .v. Stacks B at 2.55.

The Shield semi finals will be between Losers of Game 1 .v. Losers of Game 2 at 3.20 and the Losers of Game 3 .v. Losers of Game 4 at 4.10. The Cup semi finals will be between Winners Game 1 .v. Winners of Game 2 at 3.45 and Winners of Game 3 .v. Winners of Game 4 at 4.35.

The Shield Final is fixed for 5pm with the Cup Final going ahead at 5.30pm.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:  The Junior Town League final between ourselves and Na Gaeil has been put back to next Friday (13th Oct). The game is down to start at 8.30pm with the venue still to be confirmed as we write.

CONGRATULATIONS: to former Club and Kerry Footballer, Pa Laide on his recent appointment as Manager of the Tralee Credit Union. Pa worked formerly with AIB Bank.

CLUBHOUSE: As always the Clubhouse is available for all types of Parties and Functions. Enquiries about Club Bookings should be made by contacting Harry Hynes at 087 2467286.

CARDS: The 45 Card Sessions continue in the Clubhouse on every Monday and Thursday nights, commencing at 9.30pm each night.

LOTTO: Last week’s (2nd October) Jackpot, worth €6,700, was not won. The numbers drawn were 4, 9, 10, 19. The €20 winners were: Aidan O’Connor, Knockanish West; Patricia Walsh, c/o Brendan O’Regan; and Denis O’Sullivan, Betty Enright and Con O’Connor, all c/o Rock Street Post Office.

Tickets are on regular sale at the Rock Street Post Office and at the Stacks Clubhouse as well as from the other usual outlets.
