SENIOR FOOTBALL:

Rathmore 4-10

Austin Stacks 0-11

The Rathmore venue continued to be our bogey venue on Sunday afternoon (26th May) when we lost our fifth away League game in our last six visits to the East Kerry venue.

The home side were 1-2 ahead inside the first five minutes before Ferdia O’Brien got us off the mark in the 6th minute. By the end of the first quarter Kenmare added a further 1-2 to our one – coming again from Ferdia O’Brien.

We did have a very good second quarter outscoring the opposition by five points to one – Ferdia again on target with two more and one each from Shane Carroll, Darragh O’Brien (free) and Greg Horan. This left Rathmore ahead by four at the break (2-5 to 0-7).

Both sides added a point each within two minutes of the resumption – ours coming from Fiachna Mangan. The next ten minutes provided no more scores but then, in the space of a minute, disaster struck again for us as we conceded two more goals and even though we tried our best in the remaining quarter the game was really over at that stage.

We added a further three points in this last quarter – Fiachna Mangan, Ferdia O’Brien and Colin Griffin on target – while the opposition added a further four to leave them with eleven points to spare at the end after scoring a further 2-5 in the second half as they had done in the first.

Team: Robbie Murphy, Colin Griffin (0-1), Barry Shanahan, Brandon Patterson, Jack O’Shea, Ronan Shanahan, Ciarán O’Connell, Conor Jordan (Capt), Greg Horan (0-1), Shane O’Callaghan, Fiachna Mangan (0-2), Ciarán O’Reilly, Ferdia O’Brien (0-5), Shane Carroll (0-1), Darragh O’Brien (0-1 – free).

Subs used: Joseph O’Connor 39m), Seán Quilter (39m), John Dennis (45m), Jack Morgan (45m), Donagh McKivergan (56m), Darragh Scanlon (59m).

In round 5, on the week-end after next, we have a home game against Kerins O’Rahillys who had a good away win against Dingle on this Sunday (4-13 to 3-8).

B FOOTBALL: Our B  team had a bye last week-end in round 4. There next outing, in round 5, will be a home game against Kilgarvan on the weekend after next (w/e 9th June).

THE C TEAM: Our next outing in the Co. League (round 2) will be a home game against Ballydonoghue on this Friday evening (31st May) at 7.30. Bally, by virtue of a big win in the opening round away to Listowel Emmets (5-9 to 1-9), top the League Table at present, so we will have to be at our best if we are to get our first points of the season on the eve of the first day of summer.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Well done to the Kerry Minors, including our own Luke Chester and Adam Curran, on their win against Clare last Thursday night to qualify them for their eight Munster Final in a row.
