CLUB AGM: Due to Covid restrictions the Austin Stacks Senior Club 2020 AGM took place via Microsoft Teams last Wednesday evening (13th January).  The meeting which was well attended (virtually) covered all aspects of the club during the 2020 season.

The meeting included comprehensive reports by Club Secretary Elma Nix, Club Treasurer Mike Tangney, Registrar Bernie Mannix and Chairman Billy Ryle.  The 2020 playing season was severely restricted by Covid but highlights included ‘Back to Back’ Senior Club Championship & Town Championship wins, 11 Club players on the Coirin Uí Mhuirí winning Tralee CBS panel and 7 club players making the 2020 Co. Kerry Minor panel.

Compliments were paid to Siobhan Power for organizing our fantastic club social held in February.  We remembered club members who had sadly passed away during the year including Timmy Sheehan, Des Hurley, Séan Murphyand Pa Fitzgerald.  All club officers & coaches were praised on how the club faced the Covid challenge with everyone rowing in to ensure our players returned safely to play.

Special thanks were given to the twelve club members who stepped up to become Covid Supervisors for our teams.  Kirby’s Brogue Inn came on board as our main sponsors for a three-year period beginning in 2020.

Ross Jewellers sponsored our U12 team last year and Ned O’Shea Construction and Lane Wholesale Food Distributors have agreed to jointly provide a three-year sponsorship for our Juvenile Club from 2021. Thanks was paid to Bernie Mannix who had secured eight new selling outlets for our club lotto & to Nial Shanahan for managing our online lotto which was introduced last June.

Despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic in 2020 some projects did come to fruition. We cleared the debt on the Nun’s Field, which we now own outright. We replaced the netting between the pitches and we upgraded the goalposts.

We installed new shower units in the Austin Stacks Ladies Club dressing room. Our external Club House walls were freshly painted by club volunteers Denis Sayers & Kevin Healy and beautifully illustrated by mural artist, Mike O’ Donnell. Cremur Heating kindly sponsored the installation of a wood chip burning stove in the Club Bar.

The meeting reported great support by Austin Stacks club members in participating in the Kerry Co Council’s Emergency Covid Response during lockdown.

While we are facing into another uncertain year, Club Treasurer Mike Tangney expressed confidence that good structures were in place, many outstanding legacy issues had now been finalized and that the club’s finances were stable for the present.

Chairman, Billy Ryle, concluded the meeting reminding that all of us who are active in The Rock are doing so in a voluntary capacity.

We do it for the great affection we have for Austin Stacks and for the personal satisfaction of contributing to a great club. He added that there are 8 sub committee’s in the club namely – JobMatch, Field, Lotto, Social, Finance, Juvenile, Gaeilge/Cultúir and Coaching/Games Development. The excellent contribution of these subcommittees has enhanced the quality of the service provided to our members.

The club he said hopes to set up one or two more subcommittees in 2021 to complete the efficient administration of the Club. All of these subcommittees have a focused brief and will welcome new members in 2021.

The Club, he said has many fine members whose expertise will be invaluable on these subcommittees.  Billy expressed his sincere gratitude to every member who had contributed to Austin Stacks in 2020 from our distinguished Club President right through to our most humble and unassuming voluntary worker.
